I played D&D for so long, once 4th edition came out though it just killed my love for the system. (I actually got to talk to R. A. Salvatore, about how I felt like his newest book at the time had. life to it again, as there was a series that you could almost tell he was NOT enjoying at all. He went all George R. R. Martin for a minute there. He told me it was because 4th edition nearly killed them all (I assume he meant the authors for D&D)
I was lucky, I didn't realize that a D&D third party publisher took that open gaming license and made their own 3. 5 based system, where they rebalanced everything and added on to it. Called Pathfinder, It took everything you loved about 3. 5 D&D, but made it better in every single respect. I am not a fan so far of their 2nd edition. but I would give it a chance if I had a great DM for it.

Big Tip for Starting DM's: RP the character creation introducing them to their -gods-, have them choose their race as a spirit. Have the -gods- ask them questions that lead them to their class and then bestow them with their character's life mission (that they will forget) and this will connect them to the idea that there is a deeper world of war that exists beyond them. Warp to their coming of age (different for different races) and they get yanked to the same time and place and remember the conversations they had with -gods- before they existed. It allows you to create a unifying start point, but by the time you've finished all of that initial setup, your players know their characters well enough to jump into a story line with them.

He's wrong about the two dagger attack thing.
-Every character has an Action and a Bonus action on their turn.
Normally, you can only use your action to attack. Some classes can attack twice or even four times in one action at certain levels. Rogues cant do that.
if ANY CHARACTER has a light weapon in their main hand and in their offhand (i. e two daggers) then they get to use their bonus action to make an -offhand attack- but this attack will be weaker than a main hand attack
the -fighting style- he was talking about makes your offhand attack as strong as your main hand attack
the -feat- he was talking about allows you to dual wield weapons that arent light (like longswords, or greataxes)

With regard to the party going murder hobo regarding the -I break his knees- question; I think the GM has a bit of a responsibility to manage things morality wise, too often character alignment becomes some sort of pin to put on the character sheet to use for convenient cop-outs.
If someone is lawful good and their party members start cracking knees, he -should- tweak out and try to stop them. If a Chaotic Neutral (dumbest alignment ever) person is consistently doing good stuff, maybe he finds his alignment shifting to Neutral Good/Chaotic Good. Don't just let the players do whatever they want, sandboxes have walls for a reason, you need to keep them in the box, even if it is a huge box.

Best opening for a campaign, or video game, for that matter:
Your eyes slowly open. You see the back of a soldier driving a horse-drawn carriage through a forested region, the clip-clop of horseshoes interrupting the sounds of birds and the light wind through the trees. You find your wrists are bound. Also in your vision is a bearded man with blonde hair. His head is turned, but he wears a blue-tinted light armor, also bound.
He then turns to you and says, -Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us, and that thief over there. -

16: 15 or so: YES! There's a difference between a character that's fun to play, and a character that's fun to play -with-. While the player might have a lot of fun playing a Chaotic Evil asshat who tries to screw over the party, most folks don't have fun being in a party with that character. Had a guy do that once-- he shot every decision the party made, every plan, every ambush, in the foot because he thought it was a great laugh. By the end of the second session, nobody wanted to play with him. (He also cheated like crazy, which made things no fun for the group)

I've stumbled on this video and topic it's very interesting. Seems deeper than it is on the surface and is almost like a form of actual magick. is there a possibility that you could have two games being able to connect threw some sort of wormhole which connects the tables of the two separate games. it could be done if two dungeon masters were in contact with each other and a audio speaker to here what's going on. like I said I'm totally new to this just stumbled on the whole thing

One time I had a Druid (I wasn-t the DM) in my party that had a +2 to persuasion. She flirted with every enemy we had. There was this supreme knight man who was serving the king. Like only answered to the king, paladin, the whole thing. She basically catcalls him, it works and we all get asked to dinner. At the end of the night she asks for something to remember him by (still flirting) and gets a 6. He gets a nat 1 and gets on one knee and proposes. Love DnD

Torturing D&D is pointless. Between zone of truth, friends, charm, and all the charisma casters who needed torture. Also as DM I just feed the PCs bad info. People under torture will tell the torturer what ever they think the torturer wants. Next thing you know you are torturing the mayor because villager #3, who goblin #2 finger, didn't have any real names to give under torture.

I played a Wild Mage / Soul Knife Sorcerogue combo in my last game. Managed to summon a unicorn during a big bad NPC fight, act like I was -accidentally- shanking enemies using sneak attack, and survive every encounter against every high-threat enemy we encountered, all while seeming like a bard and infiltrating the Harpers. Love that character, and wish I could play him some more.
