A complicated man with a few issues from his mother.
I don't think it is fair to infer or draw a parallel between the cross dressing and orientation. That is kind of an outdated view that really does not translate to modern views. It has to at least be said that he was very close with Tolson, and two people can get completely different things out off a relationship, (any kind, not just the romantic kind, and that can be enough without every crossing into a romantic territory.
Being close friends can be more than enough. My understanding was that Mr. Tolson was a man who liked to dress and look sharp. What is a better way to look sharp than to dress sharp as a pair or at the least coordinate with your coworkers. (at least at the time)
The man was flawed, like most anyone, and calling someone a crossdresser was a overly effective way, (with little resistance, of cutting someones credibility. Thank goodness we have at least progressed a little since then, I hope.

He was a rotten sick SOB. He should've NEVER have had that post for that long or AT ALL for that matter. Crooked sick bastard. Yes he was a cross dresser. the only problem I have with that is he denied it and kept it secret. The same thing all these government and political (usually conservative) types do. It's so disgusting that they do what they do in the dark and condemn people for openly being who they are. It needs to be addressed openly and honestly. These so called conservatives don't seem to understand that you can still be conservative and be LGBTQIA+ just don't be a dick to people.

Interesting video. I saw a documentary a few years ago claiming that J. Edgar Hoover might have been passing for white, with one of the interviewed experts noting that Hoover's complexion looked considerably darker in his younger years.
Were you all unaware of that claim and that's why it was not mentioned in the video? Or did you hear of it, but found the claim lacking good evidence?

Is it just me, or does young J. Edgar Hoover look alarmingly similar to Al Capone without the scar on his face? Could it be that the rumored dirt that the mafia allegedly had on Hoover, be that he was actually related to one of history's biggest names in organized crime?

I remember hearing that the fact he stayed in the FBI for so long was because he had dirt on everyone and that prevented him being fired/replaced. Overall he seemed like a very paranoid person
