I think it is very inaccurate to say that most rapiers were nearly edgeless. While there are a small minority of rapiers that more resemble iron bars with a sharpened tip, this is an exception rather then the norm, as the cutting edge has many advantages by opening up additional areas of attack, techniques and reduces the probability the enemy will try to grab the Rapier with their hand. The Rapier was mainly used for thrusting, but they were still capable of inflicting very nasty wounds by cutting.
This translated excerpt of Johannes Georgius Bruchius book Thorough Description of the Noble and Knightly Fencing- or Weapon-Art from 1671 about the fencing with a single rapier (against single rapier) for example says:
Now follows the explanation of the openings of the Body:
[. ] For arms of legs are not counted to be openings, because there deadly wounds are rarely or never caused by thrusting. But in a cutting-fight it is very different, for there the head and other limbs cannot be excluded. How subtly these openings must be observed, each can be taught by his master.

According to a famous traveler of that time from Japan, Keisuke-san, the dispute started when countess arranged flowers and broke a stem of a rose. Saying that roses are weak, she asked for another flower arrangement. To this, princess replied that when the seed of a rose hatches, it can actually break rock. The very rock that twig like fingers of countess can't even scratch. It is undisputable that roses are strong, while countess is weak. Countess talked back by calling princess a streetwalker out of her prime, waning like an old rose. The reply was - you will taste defeat. And the answer - anywhere, anytime. The events and a pugilistic duel at a carriage-parking lot behind the opera were thoroughly depicted in a set of masterfull woodcuts that inspired countless artists of following days as a brilliant demonstration of strength through art.

Mmmmm incest nothing the ye ole rich loved more than marrying in the family. The closer the better ew normals my duaghter you shall marry the best man ever ME YOUR FATHER. Normal people had family trees, the rich turned trees into family roots. Clearly a sane woman of the past would dual someone else basically(for the time period) naked. Totally not inbred and crazy completely healthy and sane. Rome died so these degenerates could take over and ruin the world instead of being nailed to a cross and set a blaze.

What a shame. They should've had a flower arranging contest. Instead they opted to participate in an already dying form of dispute settlement. Sad. Well born but lacking in proper social graces befitting a countess and princess.

So, the true hero was the doctor!
Also, it s not true it wouldn t make a difference with the kind of gun wounds people got back then!
Infection from dirty clothes was just as much a thing when getting shot!

I know of two politicians in Europe who need to duel it out and stop the senseless war that's going on. Plus, it'd save The World since, we are on the brink of WW3. They could put it on pay-per-view.

Another thought as to why they may have been topless is that with the clothing of the era being so cumbersome, it would allow much more movement of the extremities that were being used for the duel.

So it was the equivalent of a 19th century Twitter rumor, with NONE of it's sources based on ANY eyewitness, AND an outright denial by one of the women? Yeah, this likely didn't even happen.

I really like the photos and paintings used in this one, like the photo of that woman with the cigar (1: 51) and that one with the two women squaring off in a field (5: 34.

Accept? In my case I was the offended one and the one who issued the challenge to duel. I didn't get a response and I've thankfully never heard from the dude again.

Reality is stranger than fiction moment. Imagine if they made a booty bumping contest into an anime and into an actual booty bumping contest. oh wait.
