What is the best life we can live? How can we cope with whatever the universe throws at us and keep thriving nonetheless? The ancient Greco-Roman philosophy of Stoicism explains that while we may not always have control over the events affecting us, we can have control over how we approach things. Massimo Pigliucci describes the philosophy of Stoicism. Lesson by Massimo Pigliucci

Having ADHD made me realise the neuroscience basis of stoicism. We suffer not from the events in our lives, but from our judgement about them! Epictetus and this quote speaks volumes about the connection between the prefrontal cortex(PFC) and the limbic system. In ADHD, the connection between the cortex and the limbic system is not as strong, leading to the inability to suppress the amygdala's emotional responses to the stimuli received through our sense and especially when fear has been conditioned in us which leads to anxiety. Ever since my ADHD was treated and found other strategies to reverse the perpetual worsening of my mind before such as exercise, abstaining from excessive stimuli like social media or online explicit content, and mindful activities like meditation or mind wandering, my ability to regulate and tolerate external stimuli that were previously negative to me is now much much better. Learning about stoicism also helps me recondition my learned fears into courage and more rational thinking.

The issue with stoicism is that it relies on the will to be disconnected from nature and our natural impulses which are very different from what we may intellectually seek and believe. Like nihilism, nobody can truly follow stoicism entirely because we are bounded by who we are to begin with -- that is, products of evolution with agendas for which consciousness was created and not the reverse.

Stoic is what a real man is, Society nowadays has a severe lack of those kind of guys.
They're hated because they're though, society can't get a grip or leverage over though men.
And society can't continue without stoic men.
Become a stoic today, so you can see a better tomorrow.

Aren't cardinal virtues: PRUDENCE, JUSTICE, FORTITUDE and TEMPERANCE, instead of the ones stated in the video (WISDOM, TEMPERANCE, JUSTICE and COURAGE? I mean, courage can be associated with fortitude, but the association between prudence and wisdom is not that clear.

Kinda is my life philosphy. Everyone has problems, its how you deal with them that determines if your happy or unhappy.
Not the circumstances but how you approach them.

Nelson Mandela was the leader of a terrorist organisation that used bombings to kill many innocent people. He was not virtuous.
