People do not get how f we would be. Its not that 70% of live was wiped out but species. Meaning that 7 out of ten species would be gone in hours. The estimates of death are that 99. 99999% of all living things died after the impact. It would be like winning the lottery for you to survive because the asteroid hitting the earth would cause rock from the impact crater to fly into the orbit and hitting earth again. Imagine thousands of dozen meter wide asteroids hitting earth that causes the atmosphere to heat up all around the earth to temperature like in an oven. Meaning you would be boiled in seconds. And that would not only happen near the impact no no no. if it hits china people in new york would be boild. Also the shock wave would case vulcanos to erupt all over the place. Yellow stone going bombastic

Well, there is a good chance that humans as a speciess could actually make it through such an event. MInd you, not civilisation, but the speciess is extreamly adaptable and is smart enougth to work around a lot of problems. It would be absolute hell for the survivers, but in contrast with other animals of our size, we can eat basically anything, meaning we could live off a diet off roaches and fungi if we had to, can adapt to many differnt klimates, so the long winter and following hot period are a thing we also can deal with in contrast to animals who generally are adapted for more consitent klimates, can as the far reaching trading networks of the stone age show travel continents on foot and are smart enougth to leverage those skills to their maximum benefit.

The Chicxulub asteroid was roughly 6 miles wide. The event had an estimated kinetic energy of 300 million nuclear bombs (Hiroshima sized. The event yielded 100 teratons of TNT. (1 teraton equals 10-6 megatons of TNT. By comparison, the Hiroshima bomb was 15 kilotons of TNT.

This meteor isn't actually the biggest meteor to hit earth, even when excluding the one that formed moon. That would be Vredefort meteor impact. But it left no impact on mass extinction because it was so old, that there was no multicelular life to begin with. And at the time, the earth was covered by ice that may even have reached the equator.

I think we would survive it. There would be enough people left to start over. A lot of animals survived the one 66 million years and crocs survived it so the water couldn't of been that bad, plus dinosaurs didnt have the technology we do. earth is resistant but so are humans.

My personal guess is that humanity as a species would survive this. But that also means that perhaps 90% of humans will die off and the survivors would be shed off any form of civilization which does not prove fit for survival.
