I always thought spray on belt dressing had something in it that would help condition the rubber to help make it last longer. The same way AT-205 re sealer helps condition and make rubber parts last longer. Common serpentine belts are made of neoprene, strong reinforced rubber. While newer belts are made from ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) and are supposed to last up to 100, 000 miles VS 50, 000 for the neoprene. I believe the belt dressing is probably made for the old neoprene types but not for the (EPDM) type material used.

It rots rubber. Blow up a balloon, spray it with WD40 and watch it burst. To prove it does NOT displace water (dry something out as they say) spray some on the water in a glass and watch it NOT go to the bottom but float on the top. Don't spray it on ignition wires to dry them out because eventually it will rot the rubber and leave them susceptible to arcing which can cause a fire under your hood. Stay safe.

WD-40 is mostly a dissolving agent, it's not a lubricant It has only about 15% lubricant content (for viscosity. It should not be used on rubber parts (it will dry it up) or painted surfaces (over time will have a chemical reaction & dissolve the clear coating. WD-40 should be only used when you want to dissolve stuff (rust, glue, dirt, battery acid in electronics, etc, but it is NOT A PROTECTANT

I remember back before I married my now ex-wife, someone told her that spraying WD-40 on her brakes would stop them from squeaking so much. Well, long story short, first time she drove the car after taking his advice she ended up smashing into a car parked across the street while backing out of her driveway. I wonder what would have caused that? LOL.

Thanks for the Video. Glad you are back at your usual hangout. WD40 is truly some amazing stuff. I actually got a Lawn Mower engine that got water soaked to fire when I ran out of ether. Pulled the plug, got all the water out of the cylinder, sprayed WD40 into the intake, and the mower fired right up.

Wonder why they removed the V2 rocket from the can. I just use a mix of petrol and oil, just as good. WD will flush out any grease in a bearing. I saw a aircraft mechanic spraying into Tomahawk aileron piano wire hinges. They are lube free nylon. Probably did more damage than good.

With the squeaky Serpentine belt issue I use the WD40 PTFE dry lube and give the tesioner a quick lube. frees the tensioner up but doesn't lubricate the belt that needs to be dry. Also doesn't gunk up as it resists debris and doesn't hold anything like grease or sprays tend to do.

Some things you over-looked about the miraculous WD-40: Kills ants and other insects that may take up residence in your vehicle and also keeps mice out of the nooks and crannies of the car. Something a vehicle shouldn't be caught without: WD-40.
