One year ago my engine light came on. Took car to shop and my mechanic read engine code P0300, misfire code. He found cylinder #2 lower compression than other 3 cylinders. The engine light was reset.
Soon after getting the car back from the shop I added a bottle of Techron to the gas tank.
A few weeks ago the engine light returned, code P0300 misfire. I put in a bottle of regular Techron in the tank and then filled it up. This week the car on its own reset the engine light after using about a little more than 1/2 tank of gas. I noticed the idle smoother too.
For me it was inexpensive and easy to use.
We will see if engine light doesn't return.
Car has 133K miles on the engine, 2009 Saturn Aura, Ecotec engine.
Good review.

I have heard that it takes several tank fulls to thoroughly clean the engine. That I think would be expected of any good quality shall we say carbon remover. It takes months or sometimes years for that to build up and to think it would be removed in one tank I think is a bit naive on anyone's part irregardless of the manufacturer's claim. if it did remove it in one treatment what would it be doing to the metallurgy in the engine? I would like to see what happens after three to five tank fulls for instance.
I would also like to see what happens to the valves as far as carbon goes. Full disclosure, I have heard really good things about this being used unofficially of course in certified aircraft engines. Piston carbureted engines.

As I stated on your Gumout video test - I WONDER if stop and go daily driving would be a better way to let the product breakdown the carbon deposits rather than running a straight 300 miles as you seem to have done? The frequent stopping would allow the Techron to sit on the top of the piston and soak in longer. Doing the 300 miles all in one or two trips just burns the Techron off before it has a chance to work. How about squirting the Techron into each cylinder and leaving overnight? Repeat the next day before driving the vehicle. Could cylinder 5 have such a bad buildup because the sparkplug is bad or fouled?

Chris, help! I put a can of Chevron fuel injector cleaner and all was fine until next day after driving out of town for 200 miles. After I arrived at my destination, I parked my truck for a couple of hours. When I started it up, I immediately detected misfire and running rough condition. I then did a basic tune up but no improvement. I then removed and soaked fuel injectors in B12 chem cleaner. I still have rough running engine and I smell fuel odor (I usually drive with open windows. What did I do wrong? Any advice is much appreciated.

I'm not actually sure if I've previously commented on this because I've used this product for many years without a hitch the stuff works perfect but you cannot follow the directions on the bottle you add two bottles to 1/8 of a tank and run the car for 10 minutes and turn it off it cleans while the car is off not while it's being burned. let the car sit for an hour or two and run it for 10 or 20 more minutes do that in three six sessions and then drive the car you would be astonished at how clean it is nothing remotely like this video.

Some 27 years ago I worked for a company called Amoco Oil Company, remember them. Part of BP now. But back then I was in charge of distribution of gasoline detergent additives for the company. Almost all gasoline is generic, it the additives that make it brand specific. Those additives are added to the fuel when the tanker truck is loaded at a fuel storage terminal.
Well the supplier of the additives we used was made by a division of Chevron. Their stuff worked better than others and it still does.

I have seen that 2 applications in 2 successive fills is necessary. Keep in mind the whole tank has 1 bottle so you have to burn the whole tank to test the cleaner. Not just firing it up on your driveway. Then another full tank. To state a conclusion on a short run is not very acceptable as an assessment. Nothing happens instantly or almost instantly in anything. I research. Not a mechanic but common sense is available to everyone, almost.

To expect that piston carbon to be reduced after only one application is asking a hell of lot. I would rather see what the injector spray pattern is like before and after. I am hoping mine will be improved with a couple of doses.
My 75, 000ml 2004 V40 sometimes grumbles then bursts into life from a warm engine and I expect this is due to poor spray pattern. So I am giving it a shot with a bottle of Techron.

I would be interested what it would look like to put the cleaner directly in the cylinder and let it sit for a few days! K&W made an overnight product like that and it worked very well. You poured it into the carburetor until the engine stalled and let it sit overnight. Always had good luck with that and it actually cleaned out an EGR valve for us in the ole days.

I wonder if, while you have all the plugs out, if you could put enough of the Techron( or similar product) into the cylinder sufficient to cover the top of the piston. After waiting a sufficient time, you could suck out the solution, and replace with a small amount of oil to lube the cylinders and rings prior to restarting? Anyone ever try this?
