Okay so I've just done this today, here's some tips (I've never done this before and a complete car novice.
My master cylinder had a filter insert which must stop objects going in and stops you draining any oil, this can be pulled out and then you can access it. Use a proper turkey baster or pump, I tried to use a trigger spray bottle and this didn't work so ended up using a syringe from my medicine cabinet. Don't turn the ignition or engine on when turning the wheels the first time as this will cause the pump to run dry, do it with the key in the first position so the steering lock is turned off, if possible.
Other than that it was quite simple, you'll be fine! I'm going to repeat the process again in a few days so I've cleaned it thoroughly.

Cars will last issue free so much longer if fluids are kept clean. No reason to let your fluid get like this. Once a year suck out the reservoir and replace, no need for a flush ever. Same with coolant, and transmission, once a year drain/suck a gallon and replace, your fluids will always be like new. Do a brake bleed with every brake job, change fluid in manual trans, differentials and transfer case annually. and of course change your oil and filter every 3 - 5K. Learn to do this stuff and you can save a fortune just by dedicating a Saturday once a year. at least that is my process and have been doing it for decades and have never had failures in any of these components.

chrisfix I have a 98 Dodge Ram 2500 with rear drum brakes. The abs system isnt working and when you first drive the truck the brakes will grab super hard in the rear and skid. After driving for a little it does it less, but the abs never works. I was thinking its a master cylinder in the drum. Does this sound like the issue? There are not any lights on the dash

This is the way I changed my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer's PS & Transmission fluid.
Drained the PS three times, suction method.
My transmission fluid I changed twice (pan only) (dipstick suction method) then changed the filter then added the third time.
Went from Dexron III to Dexron VI.
Yes, the fluid is backward capable.

Hi Chris- no idea if youd be able to answer this comment, but it would FANTASTIC if you could. I have 14 Altima. I want to replace some of the power steering fluid. Its got like 100k on it. Thing is the reservoir wont allow a Baster in. It has a molded-in filter cage. Any ideas or tricks?

I flushed my 06 trailblazer by turning raised wheels from one side to the other, filled pump and did it again to fill rack and pinion. Started and took for a drive and discovered the differential seal on left side was leaking.

I did this with out restarting to pump it back and didn't work as well. When I did this it seems to be looking pretty good (ended up using a gallon to switch it out and get it clear-ish)
