How to Fix Your License Plate Lights

How to diagnose and fix a blown out license plate light. The bulb in this truck was visually burnt out, but that doesn't always happen. Sometimes the light looks fine and really needs to be tested with a multimeter. If the light is not blown out then you have to see if there is current getting to the light socket. Products Used

HINT: If light(s) is not working - 1. check light as shown 2. if bad replace 3. if still not working then do what this video shows how to do. Note: DO NOT EAT OLD / BAD BULBS.
To be honest here, because things change all the time I came here to make sure I knew what I was doing and after the 1st few seconds I had my answer on how to take the bulbs out. The video was a big help but gave me a laugh because I could just see someone just needing a light and going through all that for nothing. LMFAO BTW - my wife says I'm a smart ass! Anybody agree why her on that? :)

Old vid I know but I was always taught to use something to measure the oil that came out, easiest is a pan with some sort of measurement on the side. Then when you're adding the oil back you add back the same amount, (provided it wasn''t overfilled in the first place, this gives you a good place to start and helps prevent overfilling if you're a newbie.

thanks a lot for this old video, I Wonder do you have one video with an explain how to level your mean or front lights, also I have a Brazilian made VW, which one uses a H1 and H4 halogen bulbs light, I consider replace them for led, can you recommended any model or trademark of led light to replace halogen, thanks in advance, Greetings from Mexico

Chris, I changed both license plate bulbs on my 2006 Toyota Tacoma. I checked to see that they worked then screwed is back on. Problem was, I saw a short (guess I should have turned off power when screwing it down. Now neither one works. What fuse would that be? Where is it located? Thanks for all your help!

a voltmeter is used to read volts, not ohms. an ohmmeter is used to measure ohms, and occasionally to check for continuity. what you have is a multimeter. you're mixing up your terminology. For those that already did, check your meters fuse.

THANK YOU. the only reason I never got a ticket is because the cops who pulled me over we're always nice. but I would rather not have to freak out every time I see lights flashing behind me so this is super helpful. (and easy to see and understand)

My car comes with plastic light lenses.
Do you know if it is possible to get a bigger license plate lense?
I have some white led's that are a little longer than the original bulbs and it quite wont fit back with the plastic lense.

Yea, just discovered yesterday that both my licence plate bulbs were not working on my Camry. pulled out the bulbs and found they'd both blown. Decided to upgrade and replace them with LEDs. And shit their are a lot brighter lol.

Hey Chrisfix, what do you think of LED license plate frames? My old lights for my truck are burnt out and the sockets are not sitting where they're suppose to be. Wanted to go to the aftermarket path with a LED license plate frame.

Hi Chris, the owners manual of my car doesn't say it have a fuse for the license plates lights. It only shows the fuses of the other lights. Where could this be? I'm sure it should have a fuse somewhere in the fuse box.
