if you use gumout from the very beginning when you first buy a brand new car with a brand new engine, it keeps that shiny black new carbon buildup from. well. building up.
if you use it in an old engine it slowly breaks that stuff down but VERY slowly like over the course of a year youll eventually break that hard chunky stuff up.
ive been using this exact product in my 89 volvo with 320k miles for about a year now and the tops of the pistons do improve. you just have to put a bottle in every week and dont skip a week.
yes its 4 or 6 a bottle but it does eventually get the job done.
my opinion is to use a bottle every month when you buy a brand new car so you dont give the carbon a chance to build up at all.

I WONDER if stop and go daily driving would be a better way to let the product breakdown the carbon deposits rather than running a straight 300 miles as you seem to have done? The frequent stopping would allow the Gumout to sit on the top of the piston and soak in longer. Doing the 300 miles all in one or two trips just burns the Gumout off before it has a chance to work. How about squirting the Gumout into each cylinder and leaving overnight? Repeat the next day before driving the vehicle. Could cylinder 5 have such a bad buildup because the sparkplug is bad or fouled?

it's gonna take a while for these to work, one or two bottles isn't going to do it. Btw you DID see improvements so their claim is solidified. You didn't like the degree of improvements but there were by your own admission so claim confirmed. Any carbon removed is significant. You expected a brand new looking engine that's your problem. Stop using the word significant too since you don't know how to use it

Going into your purchase I hope nobody literally thought it would fully clean a old engine and make it brand new? Realistically Id think over time doin this it could help but youd need more than a bottle of liquid to fix your car it can help but its not a full miracle working 7-10 bottle of magic be realistic guys and take care of your car year round

This stuff is good, cause, when your car has 150 k miles and gets loss of power, and engine hesitation, there could be 10 things going wrong. More than likely, you only need to clean it. Ease your mind. Like the bottle says, every 3, 000 miles, not a big waste of maintenance expenses.

Hey Chris I had a 99 swift and had a mechanic repair the engine and he soaked the pistons with H7 degreaser they were covered with plenty of carbon deposits because I saw when he removed the cylinder head, he left them soaked overnight and the next day they looked brand new!

I wish you had done a control where you didn't use any cleaning products. So take photos of the cylinders when you have a full tank of gas then drive until your tank is empty and then took photos of the cylinders again. Interesting results regardless - thanks.

Yea, thanks, Chris, I would waste my time or money on this stuff. Can you tell me what you think the best way to, if not eliminate, or at best, reduce carbon build up in the first place. Thank you Chris.

ahhh who cares about the deposit. what important is if it resorts your gas mileage, reduce noise, vibration, etc. this is a fuel system cleaner as stated by it's name, I expect more from you chris.

Some of those carbon pieces are hard like diamonds and breaking them off can actually damage your cylinder walls. The only way to truly clean these is with the cylinder head removed from the engine block.
