On my freightliner every year we would drain the 10 gallons of coolant replace it with clean water add Cascade dish washing powder run it for a couple of hours, drain, rinse then replace the coolant with distilled water and new antifreeze. I had 3, 800, 000 miles on that truck when we sold it. Maintenance is everything to a vehicles long life.

Would this be a universal process for most vehicles? I have a 13' wrangler and the heat barely works. Thought I'd try this before shelling out a ton of money for a replacement core.

Sometimes when you pull on heater core hoses. you pull the metal tubes out of the core itself or cause a crack at the core/tube interface. Then you're finished and have to replace the core.

I definitely would advise flushing the rest or your cooling system as well. Otherwise you're just pumping the same nasty coolant through your heater core that clogged it in the first place.

A good idea is to have the end of the clear hose in a cup of hot water before pushing it onto the firewall fitting. That will make it much easier to fit as the plastic becomes softer.

After doing a complete coolant flush, is it possible on a MK4 golf to reverse the pipes to the heater matrix so it now runs in reverse or do they only operate one way round?

Perfect, worked like a charm. I used 3/4 FGHT x 5/8 ID Barb Lead-Free Brass Adapter straight to garden hose and 5/8 tubing. Didn't have any of those fancy adapters; )

So my heat nor AC is working and I replaced my radiator and new coolant 4 months ago in my 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 5. 7 and the coolant already looked like mud! Any suggestions?
