My experience from 2 customers.
One of them claimed that their kids are mechanic but for some reason there is something wrong with their 2009 Toyota Corolla. Details later, the kids replaced injectors, spark plugs, and ignition coil, but the engine still misfire. All I did was look up the scan tool; camshaft position sensor erratic. I clean the camshaft position sensor and the car the runs fine.
The second one was a daughter drove their 2010 Honda MDX to get an oil change. Lights are on for a VSH AWD. Checked the engine oil which was pitch black. Lift all 4 wheels up. Rear wheels are not moving nor the driveshaft, but you can hear the transfer case making a high pitch whine. The front wheels move. Check the oil level in the PTU. No oil. Drain the PTU, no oil. I told the customer that she needs to bring this car back to the shop that did her oil change and have them pay for the transmission for her car. They mistook the engine drain plug for the PTU drain plug. This damage cause a lot of damage to the transmission cause it lost 5th gear and overdrive. Months later, shop replaced her transmission for her car.

Pro Tip for anyone that needs to wear ear plugs - These Pink and Yellow ear plug Eric showed is the absolute best ear plug on the market. They are very soft and can be compressed down to fit deep down in the ear canal for maximum noise suppression. Buy the ones with the plastic string that attached them together and cut the string off leaving about 3/4 inch so you can pull them out without having to get a pair of needle nose pliers to extract them.
I used to have to wear ear plugs when I used to fly a powered paramotor sometimes for 3-4 or more hours at a time. These are the only ear plugs that did not cause me any discomfort from wearing them for a long period of time.
All other ear plugs caused me to have earaches and headaches after extended use.
Another plus is you can wear them all night when your spouse snores loudly.

16: 37 I used to be an engineer for CSX out of Cedar Hill Yard in North Haven/New Haven, Connecticut. Each crossing you’re supposed to be doing four horns Two long blasts, (like four seconds each, and then two seconds for the short) a short and then a long, but when the crossings are so close to one another pretty much just lay on the horn and hope you don’t hear a crunch! I loved being on the road with the locomotives especially when there were five of them pushing or pulling. Eric keep on doing what you’re doing. I’m also a nationally certified NIASE master repair tech but I like working on the old cars like the 66 Chevelle super sports that I used to have in the 88 Buick Grand National and race cars.

How are you liking the ICON T10 DO you think it is as good as some of the other ones in the same price range I have been looking for a decent bidirectional scan tool with a cheap yearly fee.
You do not have to explain yourself and the things you do in your videos for the trolls who just go around and comment nasty hateful things on videos that they do not even like let alone fully watch. Those are the trolls who at 35 years old living in their moms basements still with no job or girlfriend and the only happiness in their crappy lives in trying to make other people feel bad.

Jump the sensor side to side to test I also have been doing that for years and last week for the first time it bit me in the butt lol. I did just that and so obviously it needed a sensor, put a new sensor in and still no signal, I tore the rear apart and to my shock the tone ring was completely missing off the hub lol, not chowderd up, literally completely missing. It was an auction car and the rear had been in an accident and apparently someone had that rear apart and somehow the toner ring left the building. It definitely threw me for a loop lol

I took a Drivers course one time to get out of a ticket and lots of what I learned there stuck.
The one item that really stuck was not having things hanging from your mirror, your mind blocks it out and the you hit a pedestrian because you didn’t see them.
That and nothing mounted on your glass that limits your vision like Cell phone mounts in front of your face. Next to you see one on the glass and out your hand in that position and see how much of your vision is blocked.

Nothing wrong with pad slapping if the discs aren't too worn or very badly grooved, those rears didn't look too bad, on video at least. If a shop tells you that you need new discs because they are lipped - much of which is corrosion on the outer edge, ask them what thickness the disc measures vs. new and min allowed, if there is at least 50% left and discs are in OK condition with no judder etc. then just new pads is fine.

Love the ear plug idea Dr. O. I live next door in CT, and I remember all too well drilling out the wheel speed sensor only to get debris (rust etc) down the hole and into the space between the bearing and the axle. Fast forward ten miles of driving later, and the VSA VTM crazy Hondew lights go off. Yep the rust damaged the tone ring and I had to replace the bearing hub assembly. Good times in the rust belt.

I just replaced a front wheel speed sensor in my 2010 Silverado, so those dash lights were familiar. I wasn’t getting quite that many lights, but I did get the ABS and traction control. I have an Autel, so I was able to see that the ABS was engaging when it shouldn’t and I pulled up all of the wheel speeds and saw that the right front was all over the place. The Bosch sensor I replaced it with was $21.

Why does the circuit shut off when the ECU detects a fault This sensor you pulled out shows exactly why. The shorted sensor harness will draw 16, 000 times more current than a correctly functioning sensor. This is just I = V/R. That's definitely enough current to damage the computer reading the sensor, and possibly enough to melt some wires. So it makes sense to shut off that circuit!

Honda blew the opportunity for a reliable small crossover when they chose to make the HRV exclusively in Mexico. Check your VIN folks. This is not Japanese (or even US or Canada) craftsmanship. These are not like the trouble free civics or crvs of the 90's or early 2000's. The HRV issues forums online are lit up like this lady's dashboard warning lights.

How I wish you were within 500 miles of my house. I would be one of your best customers, as I am the default transportation coordinator for my family with five adult children. I change the oil in seven vehicles, all with well over 150, 000 miles. The honest mechanics near me are not the brightest, the highly capable mechanics are not to be trusted.

There was a big wad of tape around the wire to that sensor. That may have been the boyfriend that messed up there and taped up the evidence.
I do hope you told the lady that the brake job was not completely perfect and that she would eventually lose a wheel if she didn't take care of the wheel bearing eventually.

As a 40 year tech your skills are on que! Since you have a tone ring some have a magnetic wheel bearing if equipped for info purposes i use a magnetic pocket screw driver tapping the sensor while observing the scan vss data for response to diag those pesky mag wheel bearings. New sub buddy!

As a Honda/Acura tech most of those VSA Malfunction codes and or any system Malfunction codes are usually irrelevant, Honda has a lot of shared sensors in different systems so when one this goes out in one area it tends to set all the lights on the dash for one thing.

whoever did that 'brake job' surely would have taken days to find the issue and get the sensor out, and broken every bolt for the harness. Was a good investment sending your way!

My daughters Hyundai had a bad wheel bearing noise. Under warranty, I told her to tell them. Service writer says This doesn't have wheel bearings. DOH! They replaced the wheel hub assembly. which contains the wheel bearings. He is no Eric.

Had a customer drop his Acura RDX off for a timing belt job. No wheel lock to be found and I did not have the correct one. Had to take it to Acura and have them replace all the locks at the customers expense. Know where your key is.
