I just got done with an Encore.
Customer said his brother said it needed a new intake manifold.
The owner said its been Parked for a year because his brother worked on it and the misfire was evident.
Car jerks bad.
I scanned for codes
Misfire 2 and 4
Pulled each plug and started checking.
2 and 4 plugs porcelain carbon tracked.
Coil boots springs are installed wrong.
#2 is Rusty.
Got new ac Delco iridium plugs.
Installed the boots springs correctly.
Misfire went away.
Took car for test drive.
No more jerking and ran smoothly.
No codes.
About $45. 00 in parts. Some elbow grease. Its fixed.
Customer is elated.

I’ve got the Matco Maximus 4 and it comes with Maxfix which looks awfully similar to that Icon truefix, I’m wondering if it’s the same thing. I don’t use it super often just because I’m so used to using AllData but the times I do use it it comes in handy and definitely has the information, just not used to the interface like you were saying. I would like to see you showcase the Identifix feature of the icon, I’m assuming it’s just the silver bullets and not full identifix but I’d like to see what it looks like and if it does or doesn’t compare exactly to identifix silver bullets

I wonder if that connector doesn't get a nice big ice ball swingin' in the wind during the dark days of winter trying to screw up the works. Didn't look like a meeses problem. The HF diagnose tool looks to be a decent tool for a garage guy with 2 grand to throw away. If a pro can use it, can a home garage guy use it. I dunno, man. Thanks for the video Mr. O!

Almost every video I wonder why the computer comes out before the visual inspection. It's wild to take time on 100% of cars when so many are visual finds. As an entry tech years ago I found so many things with my eyes I made good flat rate time on many jobs with the visual. To be fair I was GM only at a dealership so that helped. My point still stands.

I love watching SMA correct other shops incorrect diagnosis. He takes a logical approach to repairs in going from simplest possible cause and works his way up till he finds the problem. No parts cannon repairs like many other shops. Just wish he was a little closer to my location. Do you make Georgia repair calls

2021 Silverado 1500, for the first 3 yrs of its life and NH oil coating done each October. Often wondered how a technician feels about working underneath as it can be messy. Got a hint when the cap was installed, wasn’t a pretty experience. But no rust yet, when you and Mrs O are right you’re right.

I just had issue with my 09 buick, High voltage issue.
Turned out the fuel level sensor had a loose wire. In the tank, put new fuel pump sending unit in and seems to be good. for now.
It's a buick so I'm sure I'll be working on it again soon.
Keep up the good work. You are the best.

When you squeezed on the connection shouldn’t the reading drop since you’re stopping the flow of electrons
I’m glad you talked about the Harbor Freight scan tool. You are the only person I’ve seen using one. Interesting. You are a master of electrical problems! I hate those.

Low reference, fancy term for a ground, but with a twist. Instead of using the chassis as a ground return, an extra wire is used as a ground reference (return) back towards the circuits in question. This is mostly used to mitigate noise induced by the chassis return. Hope that helps.

Nice work Mr O, although I probably would have taken a used one wire male and female connector from a old GM and made the final fix. Im sure I would have points deducted at the car show but it would have saved the customer some $. I'm betting that plug ain't cheap.

I wouldn't wish to live in PRNY, but sure wish SMA was closer to me. Or, a shop like it. But me thinks latter highly unlikely as only one Eric O. Customers like one in this vid, very fortunate indeed! I feel safe saying, few if any shops would find the issue in this vid.

Good point about those color diagrams. They're cool to go by sometimes especially for BUS systems since it shows all on one page but accuracy needs to be checked against the OE. Tid bit of info-Those color diagrams in Mitchel and ALLDATA are made by the same people.

Recently I refused to go under this house because they had hundreds of these big bugs that kinda looked like spiders, called an exterminator and said that they were camel crickets. Said they didn’t bite so I went under and made sure I kept my mouth closed lol

The Icon looks like a pretty nice tool. If I were in the market for a scanner I would definitely it a hard look. Nice bit of diagnostics, I was thinking sender all the way but faulty wire is alot more convenient and cheaper.

What a genius place to locate a wiring connection, right in the wheel well where it can get a constant salt spray in the winter, what could possibly go wrong!
Not that it was the cause of this problem, but I'm just say'in.

Always amazed at the seemingly natural ability of gifted mechanics. I don’t believe that level of expertise can be learned in a classroom. It’s sort of like charisma, you either have it or you don’t.
