After owning an E30, 3 - E36's and a E46, I'd have to say my favorite is my current E92 M3 with the full Dinan package. That engine is just magic! If I was to create my ultimate M3, I'd start with an E46 CSL, and then install the lighter S65 V-8 (preferably in 4. 4 - 4. 6L spec) with a manual transmission, shorter geared differential, upgraded brakes & suspension with 19 BBS LM-R wheels with Cup 2 tires. I am actually building a perfect (to me) M car. STROKER 3. 5L S54 engined E46 M3 touring. 430bhp, 6MT. It should be done in about 8 months! Out of all of the M BMWs that I own, the two best ones at the E86 Z4 M Coupe and the M2CS 6MT they are both glorious and very, very special.

The best M car in current or recent history is the M2 Competition/CS imo. Apart from being a bit too heavy and turbocharged it's also really close to your guys perfect recipe! And it actually looks much better than what you cooked up; -)

The description from the rendering specification is closest to the 1993 E36 M3. It would have been good to have included one of those in the line up?
