When we say 'fastest soft-top', we don't mean the car - we mean the hood itself on the new Aston Martin Vantage Roadster, which can raise or lower in less than seven seconds. Seven seconds! Otherwise the new 2020 Aston Vantage Roadster is the car you might expect: a 503bhp V8-engined sports car that has a top speed of 190mph, can get from 0-60mph in 3. 8sec and costs -126, 950. Figures not unlike the Vantage coupe, only now with that remarkable folding hood. See it, and the car, in action here in our sensible, no-nonsense car review. Join us for more, give us a like or

What I am looking at is the moment that Mercedes is gonna snap Aston, for a penny. Nearly impossible to compete with Porsche at the mid end, Ferrari at the top end and Mazda at the bottom end. Lotus, Alpine, Aston, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, (even) Mercedes are all victims (for not taking notice) being the exceptions Lamborghini and at a push Audi (dying R8 species only as the TT is not a sports car. Excuse me but I-ll exclude in dire straits McLaren and its countless iterations of the same tube, engine and overall design language not to state an assembly standard that only Tesla could rival.

Have to agree now with this.
On launch, it was butt ugly, pea shooter exhaust, sounded awful, cheap rent interior. Etc etc.
NOW. it looks great. Proper exhausts, better front end and finally looks like a proper Aston should.
And even better, the price is realistic. Making it a true sports GT contender and firmly back on the -wish lists- For car enthusiasts.
Thank the stars!

Great review Matt as always. but by god. you've got to admit. is it fugly! .quick roof mechanism though. Porsche interior quality has it licked as well. I've seen a few close up. spend 10-20k more and buy a Ferrari F12 as I did. different class in every department.

Offering an optional nose is an admission they've got the styling wrong and that may explain why it hasn't sold as well as hoped. The interior styling doesn't help either. In saying that, it's still on my list for after I win the lottery.

AM had such a beautiful, timeless shape in the last generation Vantage. In my view, they would have been better to -do a 911- and sympathetically evolve that recognisable profile with each generation. If it ain't broke.
reply

I don't know if it was the microphone you were using but that V8 cod-NASCAR exhaust noise would get on my wick after a few hours. Where the 911 scores with the engine/induction noise behind you.

It was interesting to see how different Harry Metcalfe's review been to this one. He was definitely not blown away by the Roadster. And what happened to the Volante designation?
reply

Everyone comparing this to the last Vantage. Both very good looking on their own merits. Should maybe let Merc do their interiors as well though as it looks extremely dated.
reply

Nice looking, but, if AM want to improve their sale figures, all they need to do is design a package that doesn't have parts with such a high failure rate.

I guess this US spec car wouldn-t have OPF? What-s the deal with driving these on Europe-s roads, would really upset green peace surely?
