17: 47 PLEASE stop spreading that dumb myth! Simply wrong! Quattro does NOT mean all time AWD! That changed MANY years ago! It is FWD only 99% of the time and only sends power to the rear if slip is detected! Only S / RS high performance models have a different all time AWD system! Also afaik BMW xdrive is RWD only 99% of the time and only sends power to the front if slip is detected. Only Subaru and (maybe) Acura use an all time AWD system.

I have a Corolla Cross with 2. 0 gas engine non hybrid. I use extreme driving style (hyper milling and cruise around 80 km/h) to extract the best mileage. So far my best try was 4. 167L/100km, which is about 56 MPG. My overall MPG after 8000km of driving is 46. 94( 5. 0L/100km) So the M20A FKS coupled with CVT is extremely efficient.

Why doesn't Toyota at least provide a button to enable AWD at start rather than requiring front wheels to slip first Slip tests of the eAWD system from Toyota show that, at least as it is currently implemented, it's not a great choice for locales where snow is prevalent.
