The 2024 Lexus RZ Is Solidly OK But Is That A Reason To Buy It

Despite the hate it seems to get online, the RZ is a perfectly OK EV with a luxury logo, comfy seats, some cool gadgets and average specs for a base model. But the real problem is that the RZ doesn't actually do anything better than the competition. It's not faster charging, or longer range, or roomier, or quicker to 60, nor does it handle better, have a bigger trunk, or more LCD real estate than the rest. So why get the RZ Well, I think it really just comes down to wanting a Lexus EV and that's OK, but you should know there are better options out there.

I feel sorry Alex that you had to sucker yourself and waste your precious time with this complete dud of a vehicle.
Because let’s be honest Alex. The less said about the RZ and the less said about Lexus in general, the better. And it’s obvious when you look at almost every brand new Toyota or Lexus product: they’re just not terribly competitive and they just consistently fail to stack up and convince us they’re worthy when we can see that they’re clearly not. And this RZ no exception. So making fun of me as the biggest Toyota hater out there is old because reality is 99% on my side. Plus, almost every reviewer implicitly repeats what I’m saying, yet they’re taking all the credit.
Speaking of credit, you just can’t give credit where credit is due in this ev or the brand in general because every time you do, you’ll be constantly reminded with the reality that the competition does the same thing but better. That goes for just about every product in the entire Toyota or Lexus portfolio.
If I were in your shoes Alex, I would have either flat out refused to review the RZ, or left it in the garage for a week, and not even think about reviewing it. Instead, I would have focused on reviewing vehicles that are actually competitive and worthwhile of your time. Vehicles like the Ariya, ioniq5, ioniq6, ev6, iX, gv70, gv60 etc. since they already excel in so many ways, you’ll never get tired of reviewing them.
So please don’t call this ev just okay. This is a dud. A complete phoned in dud as usual from Toyota and Lexus.

Thats been Lexus' specialty for the majority of its existence
Making just ok vehicles
Making Toyotas with leather. and even that formula makes no sense these days because even upper trim Toyotas come with leather
So whats left Reliability
Again, Toyota badge already offers reliability without the need to pay more for a different badge
Infiniti, Acura and Lexus should be dead but somehow theyre still around

Should be named the Lexus K&S. For Toyota’s apparent attitude towards battery electric vehicles. They clearly feel forced into doing something they don’t want to and are going to kick and scream the whole way.
Engines and drivetrains are a hard-won advantage that Toyota has over competitors and especially just created care manufacturers.
They just aren’t doing a great job masking their fears.

I like how everyone goes we all need electric vehicles, then Lexus comes along and makes one that pisses off EV people. Add insult to injury, Lexus actually makes a profit on this shit, unlike the other EV automakers. Way to go Lexus! Keep pissing off EV people and anti Lexus people like fckingkoreanmachine while making a profit and sticking with the promise of an electric future. LEXUS

The fact that this is a 2024 vehicle is pretty pathetic. Maybe if this was released in 2020 or even 2021 it would be understandable, but the fact that every other EV in its segment is objectively better in almost every way is almost a joke

I'd argue that the most luxurious part of a luxury EV is long range and fast charging. Those are huge luxuries that are missing from this car, so in terms of EVs this is like taking a Nissan Leaf and putting nice leather in it.

Smooth ride, great driving dynamics, and good functionality, is what RZ450e buyers are looking for. Since EVs are inconvenient for long distance driving, long range is useless anyway. It’s an overall good vehicle.

Alex, maybe try re-uploading it without the timestamps The fact that the audio cuts out at the start of various timestamps, and then immediately resumes at the start of the next timestamp, seems highly suspicious.

I really think this is one of Lexus's best looking cars and one of the best looking EV's on sale today. Its just a shame that the whole EV part of the car is so far behind the rest of the competition.
