Great video jeff I only have one critique tho:
I think it would be really smartto do a carb loading phase maybe just a couple days before doing your bf testing. Thats because water and glycogen is also considered lean mass in the machine and when you were bulking you had a lot more glycogen and water in the muscle than when you were cutting. So even if you don't lose any muscle during the cut your lean mass will go down just from the loss in glycogen etc. You would also look bigger / fuller with a loading phase. I think doing that would probably fix the fact that in the video it seems like your brother lost 3 pounds of lean mass in the cut. I think if your were to do a loading phase the results would be way more accurate and we would know if you lost muscle or just water.

So basically you have to really really love the whole process of strict diet and training, less social life, worrying about getting injured etc etc just to gain a tiny bit of lean mass over a whole year, lean mass that is never going to be noticed by the average person or even by a fellow lifter in most cases. Or you could get to a point where you look good in and out of clothes and enjoy training a few times a week, having a social life, eating out with friends and not worrying about the calories, having a few more drinks at a social event etc. why not just take a small safe amount of roids if your going to take gym and gaining muscle that seriously

Your attitude with that injury was really inspiring.
I've tried to get back in shape 3 separate times, and got injured every time. I almost gave up, but I started getting injured just getting out of bed, so I went to physical therapy and I'm FINALLY making progress.
I know that feeling of an injury all too well, and I can't imagine dealing with it during such a push during this project.
Thanks for doing this experiment, really interesting results.
2. 7 lbs is awesome results, especially battling that injury.
Well done dude, very impressive.

This was amazing to watch. Let me sum it up. A highly entertaining and informative exploration of bodybuilding. Two brothers supporting and challenging each other through their shared journey. Snippets of everyday life and challenges faced by our two protagonists. Constant suspense about their chance to succeed and then the sweet resolution. Incredibly motivating for both beginners and advanced lifters. Contribution to science and immediate dissemination to the public. High production value. This video has it all.

Excellent video. Congrats on the gains for both of you. Lifting is incredible for anxiety, but I'm telling you right now, Ashwagandha was the real game changer for me. Once I started taking it daily at that 600mg amount like you guys, I completely defeated my social anxiety. Not a fraction of it left. Pretty wild. Like actually being able to hold conversation without a care in the world. The fact that it reduces cortisol levels while also boosting testosterone is why I think it is so effective for guys.

Honestly, my conclusion is: don't do it! Why waste all your limited time on earth just to get a little bit more muscular After noob gains (like Brad, just do two full body workouts a week for maintainence (and minor gains) and spend the other four days learning a new skill, meeting new people, or having fun. Much more meaningfull way to spend your life.
PS. Very high quality video, with a lot of effort. No hate, but just think about how you want to spend your life.

If they tracked their macros everyday, it would have been very nice to see how their adherence were. It seems like the video prioritized are large amount of time to explain the tracking and the different goals, but if they had like 400 days of data each, it would have been so interesting to dive into which trends there were in their diet. Did they consume enough protein, did they typically under- or overshoot their caloric target and what was the quality of their diet

Never touched a weight 1 year 20lbs EZ mode. Maybe 40 if you feed him right, as you are a pro. 60-80. Or you can pork him out for a bazilion pounds gain.
4lbs how long have you been in this game
TMF (total muscle Failure) from the Nautilus Bodybuilding Guide. I lived that as religion through out the late 80s-90s. That and my dysmorphia made me a total mutant.

Hey Jeff, not sure if you’ve ever posted about it, but I would have liked to see how your VO2 Max changed doing this program. I feel like if your VO2 Max goes up during a bulk, you’ll be able to push even harder and recover better. These science studies unfortunately don’t test the lung and heart improvements

Seeing your numbers I understand why I don't make gains, I'm 183cm/6ft and try to eat below 2000kcals out of fear of gaining weight (my calorie counting app has a goal of 1800/day. You and your brother are almost 20cm smaller but eat much more calories even in a cut. But I'm also not training 5 days a week.

Shoutout to Brad for sticking to the experiment and falling in love with bettering himself in the gym. The pumps, gains, confidence, and delayed gratification you get from the gym is something I wish everyone can feel atleast for some period of their life. Can’t ever see myself quitting gym!

If you're looking for excuses to not workout, Jeff proves you really have none.
In the month of october he didn't gain any lean mass from the recomp, injured his knee on the biodex, and was physically assaulted in public by a roid rager.
And yet bro still pushed through.
Legend.

I think that it was a mistake and it makes no sense that you were both on 3000 calories, that you're on such a big surplus and that he is wasting the opportunity to recomp (especially with him being overweight at the start. I think you would both be better off at 2400-2500 calories

I know a way that you can improve your physique. I keep saying it to different people and they keep trying to put down my original ideas. People want to avoid listening to me on purpose like. ill show him by not listening to his advice and not improving my physique.

Assuming the starting measurements were taken with full glycogen stores and the end measurements depleted - you might have a more interesting end result if you gave yourself a few days of high carbs to refill that lean water mass to a more apples-to-apples full cycle state.

I'm 39. And I thought the same. Been working out for 17 years. My off-season weight 190 my stage weight in 2023 was 167 2024 was 172 and was leaner than 2023. So that 5Ib of muscle in 1 year. My test I checked 1 month ago was 1043. Which im natural.

Great job you two. It was really really cool to see just how massive Bradley's beginner gains were, his body massively transformed and he looks like someone who participates in health and fitness now. The difference in your legs especially bro; great work.

I work 15 hour days, giving me about 5 days one week, 2 days the following week I can workout. Is there a better split for this time constraint or stick with this split, but expect a longer timeframe
