s not easy. In this video, Jesse from ATHLEAN-X is going to take you through some of the successes and failures during his muscle building transformation that have gotten him to where he is now and are setting him up for greater mass gains in the near future. If you are not aware of Jesse, you likely haven-t been watching the videos on this channel for very long. For those who are seeing him for the first time, it takes a glimpse back in time to appreciate just how far he has come with his body. Jesse started at just under 130 pounds of body weight. He was painfully skinny and very weak. Beyond that however, Jesse had a history of head trauma that prevented him from leading a normal life and certainly made it difficult to engage in physical activity without repercussions. As a youth lacrosse player, he suffered multiple concussions which left him with severe post concussion syndrome and he was forced to stop playing all together. The risk of another concussion was too high and it was feared that any additional head trauma could lead to permanent brain damage. As he began his quest to try and build muscle while still maintaining the athleticism and all around performance ability he had on the field, he was met with complications from exertion during lifting. Even the slightest amount of stress, strain, overtaxing of the body during a lift would leave him with a headache. Sometimes, he would even black out during a set which became an incredible risk to his health considering he would be doing this with weights in his hands or on his back. Doctors forced him to scale back his training greatly while they helped him to identify the exact causes and triggers of his issues and how to better prepare for them over time. He essentially had to rebuild from the ground up. Not to mention, along with the neurological issues, Jesse brought with him a host of postural imbalances and dysfunction that further contributed to his disability and made proper form lifting a challenge. Over the last couple years, he worked very hard on overcoming the postural imbalances that were holding him back. The fixing of his pelvic tilt, neck, rounded shoulders and thoracic extension limitations were key to getting him to function better everywhere, not just in the gym. In addition, while the body was being fixed the aggravation of his neurological symptoms was improving as well. Ultimately, in February of this year he was cleared to begin increasing the exertion of his training. In just the last few months, Jesse has added a considerable amount of weight to his lifts and is performing them with good form and solid control due to the removal of compensations from his movement patterns from his early restricted work. His legs have grown in size and he is noticeably bigger in all areas of his physique. As you will see, he still has some things that he is struggling with while building muscle. Namely, his love of endurance training and long distance running combined with a healthy eating plan that makes it difficult for him to consume enough calories to put on extra muscle. The bottom line however is, he is on the right track and continues to be a motivational figure for any skinny guy who ever struggled putting on muscle. The sky is the limit for him now that he is able to push himself in his training without restriction. I fully expect him to keep getting stronger, bigger and maintain his overall athleticism while continuing to be able to enjoy the athletic endeavors that have driven him to where he is today. We will all keep rooting for this skinny guy to keep overcoming the issues that have once held him back. If I can add my 2 cents here. Working out makes things lighter, both mentally and physically. Simple things like standing up, walking etc. feels a lot more controlled and -right-. Not like it was a struggle or anything, but you notice the difference not only under load, but also when there is no load. Being in bioinformatics (and the rebel in the family, since I didn't go far with sports, there are some serious work related injuries that sneak up on you over the years. Being slumped for long enough eventually gives you this eerie feeling of someone pinching the muscles in your back (insert correct anatomy terms here. Bad posture is not just an aesthetics thing. It is sobering to realize that your ass isn't popping, it's just anterior pelvic tilt. And if you think working out makes you more aggro, because you have the shit to back it up with - I'm a lot more calm.
And if you want to squarely go full ego for motivation - -performance- increases by orders of magnitude. It's as simple as that.

Amazing I'm so happy to see this. I have been skinny my whole life and have astma, epilepsy and was hit by a car when I was 8. I had langue surgery 4 years ago and I was in a very bad state, it took a great deal of courage to start training again after wonder If I put myself in the hospital with the training I did. Now slowly step by step, with a lot of investigation I am training and improving, thankfully I just naturally started to gain weight so I'm using that as a driving force to train. Thankfully though my legs have never been skinny, but my arms are like toothpicks. Good luck to you Jessie and Jeff, I know I'm late but love Athlean-x videos

Jesse I am so glad that I came across this video. I am so much like you. I am perfectly okay with making slower gains and find eating enough food so hard. Until I started faithfully planning a=out my meals and tracking everything that I eat, I always though I was eating so much. It turned out that most days I was barely getting 1400 calories. When I slowly upped my calories to 2100 I started seeing real gains. Though like you said, it is really hard to eat all that extra food so it is important for me to track everyday. Thanks for your inspiration and motivation.

I was always a skinny guy when I was younger. I'm 5' 11''and I graduated highschool (18) - 135 lbs & college (22) - 140 lbs. I've always worked out, played sports, and was fit, but it was really difficult to actually add mass. Now I'm 30 and it's gotten much easier to build mass as I've gotten older. I'm finally up to 170 lbs and currently working on my fitness again. I suppose I should count my blessings as I'll be the lucky one who has it easy staying at a healthy weight through my 30's & 40's!

Biggest thing to note also is that he's natty. He's done all the right training, has all the right nutrition, has all the right coaching and only to look the way he does. To the mainstream they're going to say he looks unimpressive, but to the real ones out there we know how amazing his transformation is. It's been a couple years now since he started training with Jeff, and you notice how he's not insanely huge and cut like a lot of these -natural transformation- videos? No juice that's why.

This video is the reason i just subbed tonight. I just turned 20 this year, I was only 110lbs when I went to bootcamp, I managed to gain almost 15 pounds when I got out. Now that I-m in A-school and the gym on base is closed, I was scared that the weight I worked hard to gain was gonna go away. Your videos inspired me to not be the skinniest sailor on base, and starting Monday I-m gonna begin my workout to get those gains! Thank you!

Jesse you look great! Great job!
One thing I would like to see is the ones like me that have the belly, working out at home or gym learning on eating correctly and building muscles. I have not seen a video that teaches us how to get in better shape, learning how to eat correctly. I would like to see Jeff teach us and have someone go through the process.

-it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission-
Wow, this is a coding paradigm(nerd talk coming up: means rather than checking if you can do something, rather do it and see if there were any errors and suppress/handle them accordingly. Saves time and processing)
Everything is connected in the matrix

Omg thank you Jesse. This is JUST the type of info I needed to hear right now. I wan on a 5x5 track and this program is being so pushy by asking me to add weight all the time. I-m now stuck and kinda reluctant to train because of this. Thanks to ur video. I-ll go and pace myself according to myself. U r the best, man.

I have IBS with severe diarrhea and i have 71kg and almost 2 meters in height. I look like a walking skeleton. But i stopped giving a shit and began working out. Strangely enough all the people at the gym are very encouraging and helpful. To all the skinny guys out there- if you cant get big you can get very shredded!
