m going to show you why being slow to act has put me in an unenviable position. No, despite popular belief, Jesse was not responsible for the damage. While he is in fact to blame for many of the things that happen here this was not one of them. So, about three months ago I noticed some swelling on the lower lid of my right eye. My wife, always one to be vigilant about getting to the doctor sooner rather than later, advised me to go get it checked out. After procrastinating for over a month I finally decided to go to see a dermatologist. Now, keep in mind that my father is a physician and he suggested I see an ophthalmologist rather than a dermatologist but that-s another story. In that appointment, the doctor diagnosed the swelling as a chalazion and prescribed antibiotic drops and an oral antibiotic to be taken daily for 14 days. Given the fact that I-m very stubborn when it comes to taking any type of pill I hesitated and figured if I just left it alone it would get better on its own. So no medications were taken and of course it not only didn-t get better but it got worse. Fast forward another couple of months, yes I said couple of months. Nothing was improving and it was getting more and more noticeable in the videos I was making for our ATHLEAN-X Fitness Channel. The viewers were saying, Jeff what is going on with your eye and please don-t die on us, your videos are far too helpful for that. After not being able to ignore this any longer I decided to go see an eye doctor and get it drained once and for all. That is, until I found out that I had waited so long that it was no longer something that could be drained but had to be cut out because it had formed into a fibrotic lesion. Needless to say, as you can see in the representative footage of a chalazion surgery, it wasn-t fun nor painless at this point. The result is that I was left with a nasty black and blue and an eye that will never likely go back to looking like it was from before the thing ever appeared. This is what happens when you procrastinate. If you have contemplated getting started on a fitness or workout program and just keep waiting until the perfect time, stop. There will never be a perfect time that fits exactly into your schedule the way you would like it to. You just have to start and make the time to get it done. On the other hand, I can-t tell you how many times people will write in to detail an injury or pain they are suffering from and ask for advice on how to continue with their training. They do this all while putting off actually getting it examined in person by a qualified professional and allowing the situation to get worse while waiting for an answer in some forum or social media platform. Stop doing this. Find out what is going on and cut the problem off before it gets worse. Hoping my valuable lesson can be helpful to inspiring you to avoid doing the same thing. I hope you found this no B. S. approach and advice helpful. So. I used to practice martial arts and more bodyweight orientated exercise routines, with some roadwork and jump rope for cardio. I used to get some major aches and pains in my shins especially after any form of cardio. I put off getting it checked out for many years being told that I just need to ice my shins or do more calf raises and I'll never have the issue again. After a training camp that left me struggling to walk due to the knives I had suddenly grown in my legs, I finally went to a chiro to have them checked out and I was confirmed to having Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome. After some x rays, I was told 3 months strict rest. no loading of shins, no stress or impact, even to keep walking to an absolute minimum, since I had the beginnings of stress fractures which made my lower tibia look like road maps. Turns out back in high school after a mugging incident and jumping off a bridge and landing wrong, I had caused a fracture in my tibia which i just walked off thinking that it'll heal and can't be that bad since I wasn't rolling in agony as was promised by story tellers with the experience. This incident happened in 2010. It lead to the development of compensations, instabilities and eventual irritation of the periosteum leading to the shin splints. I entered 2019 unable to do anything by doctors orders. I've been given the go ahead to get back into training, but I've been struggling between my motivation and trying to find a starting point to try build myself back up. Moral of the story, Don't be the manly man, get yo shite checked out before it checks you out. Watching this video just reminded me of all this. I am glad for the videos you put out on form and correct methods and exercises and testing for weaknesses in the body's chain and I really think I'd be more stuck and lost without them.

Thank you for all these videos Jeff. I have been making strides in the gym, my eating, and sleep - that last one has proven the toughest - but I cannot stress it enough how much some society has conditioned us to minimize problems, especially with health. I recently got more responsibility for my health insurance and have stopped putting off unanswered questions and making dumba$$ moves. My double vision is getting treated or at least I have an opthamologist on it and they are determined to get to the bottom of it just like you are with people-s health. I am actually looking at what degrees I should chase for during my slightly delayed gap year and I felt inspired to become a PT for my own health, and if I love it enough, to help others with my expertise.
Anyways amazing life lessons in your videos as always on top of informative videos.

Jeff, I learned that lesson when I got my first pacemaker implanted nine years ago, and it's a lesson that we as men seem to have a hard time getting through our thick skulls: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY AND IF SOMETHING DOESN'T FEEL OR SEEM RIGHT, GET YOUR ASS TO A DOCTOR AND GET IT CHECKED OUT AND FIXED. PERIOD. Women always show more sense than we do because they're usually the ones to go to the doctor IMMEDIATELY, while we have to be dragged there (or to the dentist) kicking and screaming. I'm 57 now, and after two pacemakers, congestive heart failure, a stent, Type 2 diabetes, a pair of hearing aids, and a complete set of dentures, you're damn right I'm listening to what my body tells me the FIRST time it speaks up!

That's crazy, I've had a chalazion for 4 years, they gave me minor eye surgery but fluffed up 'cos I've been plagued with styes ever since (3yrs, and I snapped the tendon in my middle finger when I was 12 when a football (soccer) clipped my fingertip. I had the splint but it didn't heal and ended up bending the middle knuckle bone of the middle finger in the opposite direction 'cos the splint wasn't long enough.
Ever since, my middle finger when I straighten it bends down, up then down. Hahaha

Hey jeff. Got a question if you get this. Had to take some time off from weights. Did bodyweight in the meantime. Just started to work with weights again. My question is obviously what would be the best way to do this without causing strain or stress. Time between workouts, workouts ect to build back a normal schedule. Very sore obviously it will take time but how do I do this without putting too much stress

This is so important. It has become part of the -tough guy macho culture- to not see a doctor when there obviously is something wrong. I do it too, because -I'm a tough girl who doesn't need medical attention-. Why? Why do we do this? Thank you for being honest and shedding light on this!

Omg -I take a drink and my shoulder feels like it's going to fall off- freaking so typical. So funny. Same at the hospital for the person who can't breath: -how long has it been this bad? ----Oh, a few days--- well, now you're on life support, good judgement ----

They had to do this to me bc i had something that is wart like growing inside and man will i say that shit hurts like hell, not the surgery part but the injection, and if the injection was not strong enough and they put the clamp on, my god you dont even know

Nice Video and Good Tips Man. I have been watching your most of the time very awesome Tips for the Gym and all that good stuff but I have a question can I add 2-4 small sugar cubes to my morning Tea while Am training does that affect my results or anything?
