My opinion about Asus went bad when I realized that laptop that my sis bought never got any firmware updates. They just released laptop line and... abandoned its support immediately.
Some other product lines are supported, others are not. If you are buying new hardware you can't know if it will be supported or not. Asus is unreliable and untrustworthy. I will never buy Asus myself, nor I will recommend it to anyone. Now it looks that with Asus you either get no firmware updates or firmware updates with malware... Just awesome...
Asus is burned for me completely.

Booting up ones a quarter to Windows, bumm your own OEM infects you with malware.
True story. #meetoo
There was a problem with my UEFI partition, I decided to reinstall everything from scratch, and I was lazy with Windows just installed the bare minimum from Asus, to move on as fast as I can with my Linux installer. That saved my ass. Thanks lazy me.

I'd like to install Linux on my Asus laptop, but I haven't been able to figure out how to disable secure boot, plus it's that -one box you keep Windows on to make sure you aren't having a Wine issue.- but I seriously haven't used it in almost a year.

Hackers uploaded a hacked version of ASUS Live Update Utilityy to ASUS's server and the update software previously installed on people's PCs self-updated to the affected version? Or it only affect those who have downloaded it directly from ASUS website?

I just checked mine (Vivobook) and I am OK, thanks! I right clicked and uninstalled Asus Live Updates. Question: I dualboot with 2 separate drives, one LM19.1 the other Win10. If it was inflected would removing the W10 ssd be enough?
reply

I used it when on my first windows install on my then newly build PC.
But I had to reinstall Windows twice since then and am a full time Linux user now. (except when I need AutoCAD or some games)

Ahh man... do I not miss going on Virus total, checking signatures, before installing anything in Windows... YOU, Christopher, brought back memories of a dark past #SwitchToLinux lol

I have not bought overpriced Asus motherboard since 2008...I wish I could game on Linux but not all game works so I will stick with Windows 10 for now.

Oh well, let's just remember that the Linux mint site was once hacked and the attacker upload a modified iso image, nothing is 100% safe

I already checked and not infected. Phew!
But it didn't caught me since I live in the middle east somewhere in Bahrain.
