He wasn't even showing the ambient occlusion and shadow raytracing off at the right times. Usually if an object is too small, its shadow will not be casted and it will just look fake. With raytracing, it doesn't really matter how small the object is, it's going to cast proper ambient occlusion and shadows 24/7. Also, when it comes to games without raytracing, realistic lighting post processing is usually static, and shadow softness is controlled by the light rather than its surroundings. I know that sounds confusing, but raytracing allows shadows to be dynamically sharp or soft dependant on the surroundings of the light, and allows for the light to cast shadows unlimited to how small the object is. That's the difference you're looking for. I doubt this guy knew.

For the record, this game uses raytraced shadows. Due to the low light levels of this mission, most shadows can be static, while raytraced dynamic shadows don't have enough light to be noticeable. In later missions and sky-lit environments raytraced shadows are very apparent.
I highly recommend watching Digital Foundry's Cold War video as it dives into details and actual proper comparisons.

5:09 - 122fps 4k RTX OFF
5:11 - 22fps 4K RTX ON
woah, and i really can't see the difference (besides the shadow having less sharper edges due to them being further away from the surface they are cast upon).
Think i'll get a 16gb 6800RX to play 1440p max-settings for a couple of years, and then get the 3rd gen rtx (HOPEFULLY MORE THAN 10 MOTHERTRUCKING GB OF VRAM) 4080 or 4080ti.

What I noticed on my 3070 is the demand for ray tracing there is on black ops cold war whilst barely showing a noticeable difference. With ray tracing on my GPU is 66 degrees. Without ray tracing (where I see no difference at all) GPU is 46 degrees... 20 DEGREES DIFFERENCE FOR A UN NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE

I dont really notice to be honest a huge difference between RTX enabled and RTX off. I have an RTX graphics card and even when I try to see the difference when turning it on or off I still dont really notice that much of a difference just mostly in performance I see the difference

The only worth it form of ray tracing for me is reflections. Shadows who cares, ambient occlusion is barely noticeable, global illumination maybe but for slow-paced colourful games. Reflections are massively more noticeable than any of the others

My experience is:
RTX; good for the campaign, bad for MP.
It makes a difference, but during a hectic match you're just shooting yourself in the foot and not appreciating much.

Ive got a 2070 max q and when I turn on Rtx I get like 50 percent less FPS than if I had it off. For me, it isnt worth it, Id rather play with it off and everything else maxed out

To any RTX skeptics: Dont let this deceive you. This game is easily the worst and laziest implementation of ray tracing in a game. Not at all representative of RTXs potential

I feel like they didn't add RT reflections so people playing with RT ON won't be in an advantage in multiplayer because they can see people through reflections
