Is The End Of Linux Near? DistroTube Viewers have asked my opinion on whether Linux sucks or not, so I thought I would share my thoughts about Bryan Lunduke's latest video in the Linux Sucks series. what I want to know is why no one is talking about Microsoft sitting on the FSF board and their influence on Linux as a whole by building their own Linux distro that you can only dev for from windows only, sure companies now get the linux they are used to but under a strict -you gotta use our stuff to make it work-.
Lets face it once they have big companies using their linux only along side windows and their dev tools that only work there then yeah Linux is going to suffer a lot more because all those devs that leave for M$ Money and take all that expertise with them, you are not gonna find enough quality devs these days to replace them before the kernel becomes an unwieldy mess.
And then we have Google and their Linux Binary Layer /OS wannabe for the exact same reason as M$ total vendor lock in with no choice but use what you are told to use for tools. so in short once these two companies do that M$ and Google respectively, the Linux community wont receive updates for Inset distro Name here no matter you think this can and will happen M$ has a proven track record with Embrace + Extend = Extinguish. and that is a truly sad thing to be relegated to using what ever you have forever when Linux does die for real, because the evolution you speak of is what M$ and Google have in mind for the Linux OS and that Sucks a lot.
sorry for the rant, I just hate people going out of their way to destroy something just because it is not what they want.

My brother is a super computer nerd. He makes 6 figures managing IBM Power server running AIX running though out the world. Working on them is super easy to him. If he tries to explain how something works, he will talk way over your head and is confused why people can't understand what he is talking about. I see a lot of the guys working on the various specific Linux distros the same way. They understand in great detail what they are doing, but have no clue how to make it easy for mere mortals and can't understand why people would find it difficult.
Take the network for example. Neither Windows or any of the Linux distros makes a simple gui for the network... at least I haven't seen one. Look at OS X. Look at the Network control panel. It shows the basics up front. IP, Subnet, Router DNS and Search Domains. Really simple, clean and gives you the information you need most of the time. They also included an Advanced button to get into more detail and configuration that is not used as much. It even gives you the ability to prioritize network interfaces when connected with multiple NICs. Windows and Linux has nothing that comes close to it. You end up using ifconfig/ipconfig or ip address to see what your ip is. it's silly.

When you say that Linux is better than Windows and Mac OS - surely that comes down to what you want to use your O.S. I would argue the mainstream O.S' are better than Linux for MOST people MOST of the time. Windows is better for gamming than Linux, Windows is easier to use (for casual users).............Linux is a better server, its more customisable, the terminal makes installing things faster and easier and it makes carrying out repetitive tasks easier, its FAR less confined to government and cooperation enforced rules, regulations and restrictions. But to tell your average user that Linux is better than Windows, I think would be misleading FOR the average user. Windows is now, from what I can see, very nearly as 'threat secure' and 'virus-resistant' as Linux
Windows (especially 11) REALLY lets itself down in terms of speed on older hardware. Linux is more flexibile in that regard, it can run on very humble systems, but it can also make use of high end hardware........its according to what you want.

My main issue with Linux is software support ( ofc it's not a Linux problem, it's the software/game developers ) probs the only thing stopping me from using Linux as a daily driver. And second reason is mostly UI/UX, it's absolute garbage compared to Mac/Win which is also reason why Linux users use Terminal a lot as you simply can't do a lot of stuff in simple ways. Linux is still a king in servers, distributed computing, privacy & security, programming/coding, hacking etc. but that's about it. Windows simply blows Linux out of the water in pretty much any other aspect such as content creation ( Video Editing, Music, Design, 3D Graphics ), CAD Engineering, Game Development, Architecture, GUI ( actually on par or bit worse than KDE Plasma ), Gaming, UX, ease of use, software/hardware support.

I release all my code under GPL2 by default. (Not all my code is free, I'm unfortunately tied to some proprietary licenses that only allow freeware in binary format, as well as the organization I work with is very secretive and requires signing of NDAs, but I won't let that stop me contributing to software freedom on my own.)
As a very liberal person that is Richard Stallman, as much as I might not get along with him in real life due to my conflicting political opinion, he created and essentially pioneered Open Source as a thing that exists, and I will forever praise him for that!
I learned to not exclude any person to use my code for political means since that's just pointless. It's just ridiculous...

These social justice warriors are welcome to create a fork of the open source movement. They can ban whoever they want from their little corner and everyone is happy or triggered and outraged, whatever... Taking over the movement is ridiculous and evil. These people are parasites, they never want to cooperate and do things by the book or by merit, they need to take over and change the original thing whatever it is, science fiction, games, knitting, whatever, and contort it to their depraved rules.

I think eventually the linux kernel will have to become a microkernel like QNX. That would be much harder to develop and debug, but the advantages would be huge. People will bring up the failure of GNU's Hurd project based off of Mach, but I have to say that having worked with QNX there are some real advantages, and significantly it will scale. Want to add a new module? Sure, no problem. Probably by that stage though it won't be linux and that is a long way off.

I tried POP OS after running MINT forever... and LOVED it-- until the boot section got FULL-- there is no way to get the OLD kernels out-- and as it updates.. adn installs new ones-- it got FULL and i couldn't update anything. Finally just switched to ZORIN 16 and I've had it 3 days so far- and absolutely LOVE IT!!!! SIMPLE- clean, FAST...easy!!! (and for the folks that want to switch FROM wiindows- you can make Zorin 16 look EXACTLY like windows- either version)..

Linux has the same problem that android has. Too many choices overload most people with paralyses by analysis. Even Linux users will move from distro to distro. Until it-s standardize more similar to when Ubuntu was rocking the top of the charts it won-t ever be main stream. Pair that with a ton of people who require professional programs that are not offered on Linux and sadly you will never have it, hit mainstream. You need the professionals to move over.

I want to use linux as my main. But I cant. You cant even set your rgb light properly. I don't even talk about maximizing your fps in games with your current gear. I don't want to use my 1080ti and get gtx 1060 like fps in games and I don't have time to fix errors for each game to play them properly. It was like this 10 years ago. Still the same except some dated old games.
