HW News - Intel Responds to Our Video, NVIDIA Finally Caves, Cooler Master NR200P V2

NVIDIA finally caved on requiring logins for GeForce Experience -- by planning to deprecate it altogether and merge it with NVIDIA Control panel (eventually), creating the new NVIDIA App, or NVAPP. NVAPP will eliminate mandatory logins for ShadowPlay and seeks to unify NVIDIA's old control panel and GeForce Experience software into one tool. Other news includes Intel's plans for Dx12 focus this year, its updates on Starfield and GTA, and its finalization of Dx9 and Dx11 re-architecting on the drivers. We also have stories about ZLUDA, the N64, and the NR200P V2. One of the big pushes away from AMD GPUs for me was how HORRIBLE the replacement for CCC was, and how many options were just flatly lost and gone forever - having a multimonitor setup, I needed those things at the time. Well there are better solutions now for sure, but I really, really hope nvidia strives to maintain feature parity at 100% with the old app, and if nothing else, allow the vestigial app to continue to function.

Thank God Nvidia is FINALLY modernizing the Control Panel. That thing looks like an ancient relic. No forced login is a great plus, no need to fumble with password manager when it needs an update and decided to log me out out of nowhere.
My heart skipped a beat when I first heard GeForce Experience. It's relieving that they're building a new unified app.
Weird that they want customers to fumble through their site just to take advantage of a graphics card they've just bought.
At least this shows that they haven't haven't dumped 100% of their money into AI and zero for other products.
Intel still has the best app so far.

Oh... no thank you Nvidia
I just popped in to their control panel last night because I needed to force on VSync that way. It was quick and easy. I can't wait for that to no longer be the case! Maybe I'm just oldschool, but I don't really understand why my GPU needs an entire companion application. The easier driver installation is ok i guess It was never hard to do before though Just let my hardware be my hardware please :)

For me the news about Nvidia control panel is not at all welcome.
I hate the tacky, 'modern' look of the new app and think the current control panel looks and works great, it just needs to be a little snappier.
I don't want the additional clutter of the new app and I hope that there will be some way to keep the current control panel, even it it'd by the use of some mod or other bespoke software solution.

Does GeForce Experience/NV App still mess up settings of games when you install it Whenever I tried to use it it would mess up all my carefully tweaked settings. Also, will ALL functionality of the Nvidia Control Panel available in the new NV App If not, then Nvidia should wait about forcing it until it is. Is perhaps all functionality from Nvidia Profile Inspector available That would be a good move.

I don’t know about you guys but I appreciated the simplicity of the Nvidia control panel. It just works. Honestly if it isn’t broken they shouldn’t fix it. It reminds me of windows trying to hide all their control panel apps through the modern UI, but at the end of the day if you’re a power user you’ll make your way back to the older style control panel, which had everything and JUST WORKS.

Starfield had its problems but was still a good game tbh. Saying no nobody cared for starfield is kinda crazy lmao.
Showing the article as well makes no sense tbh. Its a single player game, make sense it would loose so many players lmao. Plus there is no offical MoD support from Bethesda yet which many are waiting for.
I swear the hate and attention this game is getting is beyond ridiculous.

I also won one of those call-in prizes during cartoon watchin'! I won a huge box of Tiger Electronics (which is exciting when you're 8) by being the 13th caller. The operator picked up and said Q13 Fox, how can I help you and I said uhh... am I the 13th caller And he pauses for a moment and said yes you are in monotone. I'm still baffled at how unexciting he made the whole thing.

On one hand I'm going to miss the old Nvidia Control panel if I move back to their cards. On the other hand, it kinda faces the Windows Control Panel situation, where Microsoft moves settings around and make things worst in every major OS release. Better to have one unified contol option, just don't dumb it down for the sake of the users who would never use it in the first place.

I can confirm that the NVIDIA control panel was around in 2003, but I'm not certain how much older than that it was, since that was the year I got my first actual gaming PC. I remember using it to tweak my settings for more performance while playing Unreal Tournament 2003. The sign-in requirement on GeForce Experience is one of the reasons why I never used it.

The driver problem is much more a problem of the lack of standardization than anything else that itself plagues the electronics industry. It also makes it harder to other companies to enter the market. But you know, american likes their companies like their politics. Left and right, no space for other options. Intel is swimming against the tide there.

Even if they switched to ROCm, it doesn't have the same amount of coverage support as CUDA does. You can't use ROCm on Polaris and it requires PCIe Atomics, which is only available on PCIe 3.0. Meanwhile, I can take my old Kepler 2.0 GT710 and use it anywhere where CUDA is required granted it doesn't need more than 1 GB of VRAM.

The mods that Kaze came up with don't make games look slightly better, they make games look like a whole generation better. Some of the stuff he's been able to produce looks like GameCube quality. What he's been able to achieve is nothing short of astounding, and is one of the biggest flexes in vintage console modding history.

For years I've been seeing people complaining about how outdated and archaic Nvidia control panel is compared to AMD's software. Only now that they've announced they're replacing it are people talking about how much they like it. It's a cycle that plays out every single time, with just about every kind of software out there.

After having swapped to AMD graphics, after some 20 years worth of Nvidia... I kind of do get why Nvidia wants to update their 'drinking age legal' software. It does look ancient in comparison.
It does have its positives though - we've all used it for so long that we kind of know where everything is. It's stable, it works.

Okay Steve, just a heads-up here. Intel is not new to the GPU market, They have been producing on board video for motherboards for many years (since the early 2010s). All have it was not meant for the higher end gaming market, It was first introduced in 2010 as Intel HD Graphics and renamed in 2017 as Intel UHD Graphics.

If I wanted to build a new budget to mid PC, I'm sure I'd go for Intel Arc. I'm very interested in the new stuff and I honestly want more competition than the two giants.
Then again, I'm a used parts evangelist and I don't think there'll be an opportunity to go for Ark in the near future from the second hand market.

Did you guys record this video in reverse order over multiple days or something Steve's facial hair gets longer halfway through the segments, which is strangely jarring. I had to double check that I wasn't going nuts because it's not something you expect to notice in a weekly news update.
Anyway, thanks Steve.

Looking at the new computer cases nowadays I really think they should design a fishbowl case that you can on one side show off your parts and RGB while on the other hand having some nice fishes swimming in front for the fancy RGB light; the cooling system could keep the water warm for some tropic fishes imo

Whenever I update my drivers I have to go back and turn off gsync and turn on fixed refresh to be able to use 360hz ULMB 2 properly. It's really easy to do with Nvidia Control Panel. I really hope they don't hide this behind 999 menus in Nvidia App like I feel like is going to happen.
