The Cheapest AMD RX 7900 XT: Price Drops, Benchmarks, & Value Revisit vs. 4070 Ti & More

We bought a PowerColor RX 7900 XT Hellhound for 720 recently and we're revisiting it for a 2023 refresh. It WAS the cheapest card for a little bit, and hopefully it will be again. The 7900 XT has changed price a lot over the last year, meaning the value proposition could have changed alongside that. Most recently, we've seen swings from 850 to 720, then 800, and now there are some back at 750 again - but all of these are transient, of course, and the conclusion ends up being a more nuanced if it costs THIS, then here's what we think. We'd assume some of the pricing chaos is due to GPU oversupply and some is due to impending holiday sales. Either way, we're revisiting the RX 7900 XT vs. the RTX 4070 Ti, RX 6950 XT, RTX 4070, and RX 7900 XTX (among other cards). Comment below with what older card you want us to revisit next!

Got bit by the upgrade bug really bad which I was hoping would go away if I upgraded everything but my 3080. It did not. Kept eyeballing the 4070 Ti and 7900 XT to see if there would be one over the other as far as pricing was concerned and RTX isn't something I put as a top priority so it really did come down to price.
Then Prime Day happened.
The Nvidia cards pretty much stayed the same but the XFX Merc model dropped to what would be 740 USD from roughly 840 USD which is pretty amazing for Canada since there's often a Canada tax tied to these things. Anyway, scooped it up, dropped it in my 2000D and it's been great. Losing DLSS hurts but I am more than okay with the raster uplift since I mostly play games which don't have upscalers or simply don't need to be used.
First time I' have an AMD card since the 290X and an AMD CPU since I unlocked a Phenom II X2 550 BE.

Got the ASRock Phantom Gaming OC 7900xt for 720, with the 100 version of Starfield, so value wise it was 620, which is insanely good deal for the time I got it. Considering launch MSRP was 900, dropped to 800, and it's performance value today for that price it was top tier purchase. Pretty sure any 7900xt variant will be a solid GPU for years to come, there's no need to look to the future with how gaming is, this gen solidifies any need for upgrades. It's the CPUs that need to be looked at, seeing as many games are CPU bound mainly

I feel like revisiting two, possibly 3 points in a generation of GPUs is a good idea. The highest end, and the most popular option would be the most sensable. So, in the case of the 10 series, the 1080Ti, and the 1060 6gb. The reasoning behind it would be that the highest end owners are more likely to have held out on upgrading if they aren't the type to splurge on a new GPU every generation, and the most common card that is even barely relevant will also likely have the most holdovers from upgrades too.

One thing I can say for those interested in the 7900 xt or xtx (I have an xtx) The drivers are perfectly fine no issues since I switched from Nvidia also try and avoid the gigabyte gaming OC model underload there's a 30 C difference between edge and hotspot temp to the point it drives my card to max fan speed when gaming ex 60 for edge 90 for hotspot if your case can fit the card I recommend something like the hell hound or sapphire cards

im looking to upgrade my 2060, i dont know what card to get, need something that can run 4k60, and 3440x1440 120hz. cpus a ryzen 5600.
i cant decide between the rx 7700, 7800, or maybe an nvidia card like the 4060ti, or 4070, but from what i see today RDNA is much better then nvidia for the price, just want to max out some graphics and have a sharp picture with a smooth framerate

Would love a revisit of the 3070, with a focus on what would make sense to upgrade to for 1080p-1440p gaming (since 4K for people with cards in that bracket doesn't really make sense - and imo doesn't make much sense on a desktop monitor either)

I would like to do a revisit of the top 10 most used cards on Steam survey. Like 3060, 1060, 1660 and so on. That would be a great video showing how those cards perform today and how big gains would be if moved to current gpu generation.

I ended up with a gigabyte gaming oc 4070 ti from my local best buy simply because they had an open box for 700. Cant really complain at that price, Im more than happy with it. Was gonna go with the 7900xt but couldnt pass that up

I was searching for an Rx7800Xt but it became was too pricey just after launch(545 + taxes) so I got a 7900XT, got it for 674 euros + taxes, right now is at the same price. I would say I'm satisfied with my pick.

Geizhals also serves the UK, Ireland and Poland. just saying :D
Best price for the 7900XT is still 835 which includes 19% VAT. Without VAT that's 742,62. So Europe is cheaper compared to the US without taxes.

i'd like a closer look at the 3070 since it's not too old, was considered decent price/performance (at msrp), and has only 8gb of vram - which might not line up well for recent & upcoming aaa titles.

AMD needs to separate its render and raytracing pipeline. You shouldn't stall the render pipeline because the ray tracing pipeline is waiting. Probably a driver problem.

Paid like 1,300 with tax for my 7900xtx nitro +. Spendy but worth it. Used Nshitia for years and made the jump to the better team , Red..

I was lucky to get the 7900 XT for 700 around when Starfield came out. Hope for everyone s sake it goes back down to that price.

If you an find it on the 700s it's a no brainer. People give AMD GPU flak but I been using AMD GPU for years and they good.

I really appreciate the collaboration with Geizhals for european prices. I definitely want to see more of this in the future!

So basically if I can pick up a 6950 for 20% less that a 7900 I should? There are some still available from Canadian retailers.
