You know, i never really understood why cpu performance matters to gamers. Yes your cpu matters in term of overall performance, but if youre looking for a the most bang for the buck upgrade for just gaming, i would primarily be looking at the gpu. Once youve maxed out gpu performance, usually limited by your budget or current available architecture, which obviously would be bottle necked by the cpu, then i would look for a faster cpu, which is generally cheaper and offering substantially less gains than a gpu. Only when switching platforms would i consider upgrading cpu performance. You could always upgrade your cpu and gpu at the same time, however its seems like the most beneficial gain in the immediate future would be the gpu.
You could also look at it the other way around and buy a cheaper cpu for an upgrade, however platforms usually have a limit to cpus supported, where as gpu are just limited by power and slot speed, which most boards have a x16 4.0 slot, and dont require an entire platform change for upgrading.

PLEASE do not focus that much on power consumption, most of us here are gamers, we care about FPS, so do not enable intel and give them excuses for giving us efficient cores on desktop. If Intel decides to follow Nvidia and give us a CPU that uses 600w (but with a significant improvement in performance no1 cares it uses 600w)
I understand power consumption is important for servers, but this is not the Xeon lineup..

This is worse than the launch of the 11th gen. I've purchased an i7-11700 and still rocking it. I recall that your thumbnail for your i7-11700k review was you with sand crumbling out of your fist and it said Waste of sand or smth similar
The 11th gen had the same incremental performance gains maybe a bit better over the 10th gen but it supported PCIe gen 4 and supported DDR4 3200GT/s rather than 2933GT/s.

I have never liked Intel, every PC I have built has always been around the AMD platform. I am not a gamer, but I do a lot of multi threaded stuff, so recently as I am on a budget I have purchased a RYZEN 9 5900x that I am more than happy with. Intel are desperate right now, and regardless of any benchmarks that Intel might do slightly better in, AMD is still the better choice over all.

I do not understand how someone can buy an intel CPU at the moment.
I bought an am5 motherboard and a 7700x at release and not only am i still fine but i will be fine to update in a few years because am5 will support many cpus to come. If you go intel at the moment, not only will you be behind already, you won't be able to upgrade in a few years without buying a new motherboard.

I am really struggling to think of a scenario of who this product would appeal to. The 13600,13700 type cpus are good all round gaming , general cpus but the 13900,14900 are basically no use to anyone, they are too expensive, to power hungry, dont perform significantly better than 600,700 series cpus and the ryzen competition is just better at everything.....

Absolutely INSANE how much power these things use.
Why would anyone choose to built an Intel gaming PC when you can go with AMD for less, with better performance and SIGNIFICANTLY less power draw?
Intel stifled innovation for years, they ripped consumers off due to lacking competition, and now they are dead in the water.. Karma!

how many months since we have AMD 7800x3D already ? oh yeah, launch date was 6th April 2023.
Intel had 6 full months to come up with something better... i guess, good luck with the next gen, intel.
I wouldnt even consider intel for ASICs chips/boards, as their CPU power usage efficiency is just bad.
Thanks Steve (from GN)

The 7800X3D's performance is kinda insane. The chip has a TDP of 120 Watts but only draws at max a little over 2/3s of that and, in gaming, easily outperforms everything else, at least most of the time, with that little powerdraw.
How is that even possible? And why hasn't Intel developed desktops-chips with 3D-Cache yet?

If the price is the same, then great. You shed like 3% power/heat, and gain about 1-2% performance...
But if it costs even 20 more... then nah.
Calling it 14th gen sounds like they intend to milk this slightly improved refresh for benjamins.
(still very happy having snagged a 7900X for 350 + free ram last year)

That is pretty disappointing. I was thinking about switching back to Intel from AMD as I've overall just been unhappy with the Ryzen 3700X performance over the past few years, but I honestly can't justify spending 600 on something that is worse than something that's cheaper. Though, the integrated graphics is nice.

Both nvidia and intel failing so bad, first terrible 40 series and cherry on top ''dlss 3 can not work in 30 series'' scam and now intel released literally same cpus for third time! It is 99.99% anymore we will see the golden age of AMD in next few years, if they don't screw it up hopefully..

Feels like the stagnation years when AMD was struggling to make good parts, so Intel didn't worry about meaningful improvements to their parts, except that now AMD is making competitive parts now. So why the current stagnation? Does Intel want to go out of business? Kinda seems like it.

All this did for me is making me more sure about getting a 5800X3D now :D I did research for the past week or so, but it's just obvious, that a current gen platform isn't worth it, when you consider the insane prices of those platforms and what they actually bring to the table

Can you please not Benchmark Starfield use something that even high end PC's struggle with Star Citizen or well use both ince at least for me thats literally the only game i buy my components around and would be nice to know when the E-core issues are resolved in that game

Intel at it again it seems. And I was hoping to get their cpu in future because my experience with AMD was a little meh. (usb dropout/tpm stutter/very bad quality of soft (bios/agesa)). But intel it seems once again just changing socket of cpu and nothing else.

still not sold on the entire p core e core consept. especially since i play a lot of older games where i have 0 idea what kinda of jank that will bring, tho it might not matter but i can imagine stuff like cs2 be the case for old games where they wont fix it.

Having an i9-12900K, I can see from the benchmarks in this video that it is so not worth upgrading to the 14900K. Will wait and see if 16th gen is worth while as I can't imagine 15th gen will be a huge leap in performance from my current CPU either.

I have a tale of two PC s.
PC 1 has a 5800X3D.
PC 2 has a 5600X3D.
CPU manufacturer 1 isn t really interested in making me pay to upgrade.
CPU manufacturer 2 is similarly uninterested.
Maybe the duopoly thing isn t so good for business.

I thought Intel with this -refresh- rename was finally going to address their shortcomings in the realm of power efficiency, given the upward trend in power consumption for their CPUs but alas we ended up with monstrosity instead. Actually sad
