Swedish Winter Log Cabin, Building a Snow Cover 8. 0 - One Man Traditional Log Cabin series Skitzochik: You're young so I'm forgiving you for many things you should know, here's a couple key suggestions that will make EVERYthing else you do much easier. Clear your area of all the fallen debris (branches, logs, bushes, trash etc) on the ground, then clear the low hanging branches in your immediate vicinity they're fire hazards & snow traps. Take that watch off & start wearing some good leather gloves. Save your hands my friend you will regret if you don't. Lastly, make yourself a good STURDY ladder & use it.

I have lived and worked in a similar environment, here on the extreme tip of the north shore of lake Superior. The whole area was settled in part by Norwegian and Swedish immigrants. We work on construction all though the winter. If the weather is good, a lot of us prefer it to summer, no bugs, especially black flies. You dress warm, take extra care, and, you learn how to cope with the extreme cold. Anything above 10 degrees above is considered balmy.

I have absolutely loved all your videos so far and understand most of the processes but what is the purpose of cleaning your logs? Can't wait to see more. I have seen more log cabin builds but yours is by far the most traditional and therefore I like it the best keep up the good work but I am really curious about the cleaning purpose.

Erik in years to come when your in your 50s / 60s you will look back at what youve achieved and think did I realy do all that on my own!
You are amazing my friend

my grandfather, my father and one of my brothers were carpenters, with a 3 and 4 year apprentyship, building mainly Swiss chalets. They would be proud to see, what you are undertaking, all by yourself. I cant wait to see the finished project. love your determination. A SWISS, living in the USA.

Amazing video series. I was questioning myself about the feasibility of a project like that here in Sweden. As a Canadian now living in Stockholm it's great to see that you don't have to go far away in the north of the country to be able to do a project like this.
Keep up the good work!

Is that just to protect the logs? What would happen if it just had snow on it all winter? Could you not sand the interior next spring? What's the difference between protecting it from snow or protecting it from just rain? Was thus mainly to stop you from having internal damage?

Hi Erik another great video, such a hard worker. I have read the comments in most of your videos and a lot ask about your Swedish tools. Have you thought of contacting the manufacturers for sponsorship based on your age, determination and World wide viewers? It's worth a look. :)

Please make sure you avoid cutting trees as much as possible and grow
plants at least 10 plants to 1 tree used, more than 10 is even better.
We have already seen forests under fire and we couldn't do anything
about it. Please don't consider trees as just woods

Hopefully one day I can move to Sweden (now living in the Netherlands) maybe even build a log cabin. Until that day your videos are a great inspiration I guess not only for me but for a lot of people. Keep doing what you love doing in live.

Very impressive what you're doing. Couple questions: how long did you dry the logs for the cabin and did you take any precautions against insects or rot? Also what are the dimension? Thanks and keep up the good work

feels like youre over engineering a simple snow cover unless u get extremely bad weather & heavy snows there? id have just stuck up a few tree branches & tied a tarpaulin over it with ropes.

In addition to the excellent carpentry, you do a remarkable job photographing the process. What camera do you use?

What large head axe are you using? Is it flat on one side angled on the other, if so what side is flat?
