Vietnamese Snail Feast in Saigon - c A Si Restaurant

When I was visiting Saigon, one of the meals I knew I needed to try, was a Vietnamese style snail meal. c is a word in Vietnamese that means snails, and they are extremely common to eat in Vietnam. Walking around Saigon youll find plenty of restaurants that have a host of unknown mollusk shelled creates, on display, that are ready to be cooked however you like them. Located just down the street from the hotel where I was staying in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City, was a street that was home to a number of different snail restaurants that opened up in the evening. After walking along the road a number of times, I decided to eat at c A Si, a good looking Vietnamese snail restaurant with a few seats and chairs available right along the road. c A Si had a full menu, but I had no clue what to order, so rather than browse through the menu, I decided to go up to the trays of fresh snails and see which ones looked good. I literally only knew about what half of the snails were, the others I had no clue thats part of the fun of eating and traveling. All the staff at c A Si were extremely nice, and they patiently waited as I took my time choosing which snails to eat, and even making suggestions about snails they thought I would enjoy. Once youve chosen which snails youd like to eat, you can then order them cooked in a number of different ways, from stir fried to steamed with lemongrass, to sauted and coated in salt and chili. I chose a number of different snails and methods of cooking, and then happily sipped on a Saigon beer as I waited for our meal to arrive. The first Vietnamese snail dish I tried in this video was c hng rang mui t, Babylonia areolata snails, that were sauted and coated in a salty chili and lime seasoning. The snails were a little on the chewy side, a little like squid, and the seasoning was flavorful and salty - definitely a good beer snack. One of the snails that I had seen at the front of the restaurant was c len xo da, mud creepers that were curried in coconut milk and topped with Vietnamese coriander. They were almost the texture of oysters, slimy and slot, and coated in sweet coconut milk. Probably my favorite Vietnamese dish of the meal was s ip nng m hnh, I guess not even snails at all, but they were scallops, roasted over charcoal, and topped with scallion oil and chopped peanuts. The combination was something Id never had before, and it was incredibly delicious. For my last snail, I had c ti, a huge snail that tasted almost like squid, and had a lovely sweet flavor. I had an amazing time eating snails and shellfish seafood in Saigon, and not only was the food good, but just like much of the food in Vietnam, the atmosphere of the restaurant and the culture of eating was fantastic. There are many snail restaurants to try in Vietnam and throughout Saigon, but I went to c A Si since it was right down the street from where I was staying

Great video I enjoyed your Asian food videos. The dish with the spiral shell, I think that one's cooked in coconut milk? The one where you're supposed to suck it out to eat it, did you manage to remove the hard snail foot cover? I think you're not supposed to eat the whole thing, there still some guts inside. We also have some snail/shell dishes in the Philippines, Kuhol, Bagongon, Aninikad/Sikad-Sikad, Tulya, Halaan, Tahong and much more. We remove the snail-foot and the guts before swallowing the snail meat. I hope you feature some foods from the Philippines in your videos. Cheers

You made me jealous Mark. You have been enjoying all the good foods that I want to eat whenever I travel to VN. You are also funny with facial expression whenever you enjoy good foods. LOL. Love to watch you enjoy eating. I love foods and travel as well. Good luck to you and your family. You do have a cute boy. He looks adorable.

Does coriander taste like stinkbugs to anyone else? I want to try all these meals. but I see the amount of coriander they put on everything. and I just can't stand the taste of it. :( (Yes I actually ate a stinkbug before. it was horrible. and accidental. but it has ruined coriander/cilantro for me forever)

oh my Mark. That was a lot of red raw chillis on that 2nd scallob. Have you've always liked spicy foods or did it take time to develop? I feel like my stomach lining would be shredded by that & I'm Asian Lol

We had dinner here two nights ago and it was good but a little too salty all around, except for the scallops with scallion oil and peanuts, and the morning glory with garlic cloves. Those were SUPERB

I was born in Saigon Vietnam but after I was born 2 months my parents moved to America. They already lived in America they wanted me to be born in America. I never visited back yet. But I love the food

I have a question. Does Vietnamese food have any special vegetarian dishes which I can try. Actually, I don't eat Non Veg, so I'm just asking my Vietnamese friends. I Hope someone replies soon.

My Aunt is French, and she cooked escargot for us once when I was little. Sea snails or land snails - it does not matter. It's good food if you know how to prepare it.

My biggest regret when visiting Ho Chi Minh was not trying the snails until the last night. Could have been eating them every night. Still dream of those snails.
