Lab Som Phit ) is a well know restaurant in Korat ( Khorat, known especially for its sok lek, a Thai dish of raw beef and blood. Read more here: Nakhon Ratchasima, better known by its shorter name of Korat ( Khorat, is one of the main cities in the Isaan region of Thailand - the northeastern part of the country. The city is about a five hour drive from Bangkok, and on my way to visit a friend who is working in Isaan, my wife and I decided to stop for a few days to eat and hang out. One of the restaurants that we ate at was this place, known as Lab Som Phit. I immediately loved the look of the restaurant from the outside appearance, old and rustic, classic Thai style, and full of happy eaters, munching down on delicious and authentic Thai Isaan food. We ordered a spread of different dishes, including the main event, sok lek, which is a Thai dish of slices of raw beef combined with raw blood, and spices. The plate was honestly a little intimidating as it also included big slices of tripe mixed in a as well. I decided to go in for the sok lek, and took a bite with beef, blood, and some herbs in there as well. Despite it looking a little on the bloody side, it was extremely good, so juicy and so flavorful. The dish actually didnt have a real strong blood irony flavor like you might expect it too, but it rather was well spices, seasoned with herbs and chilies and toasted crushed sticky rice powder for that larb style crunch. If only sok lek ) was not potentially hazardous to eat, I would definitely be eating it very frequently as the meat is so good, and it goes so well with sticky rice as well. Another dish we ordered was kaw moo jeem, which is the Isaan version of kaw moo yang, or grilled pork neck. The dish included thin fat marbled pieces of pork neck, marinated in a brew of soy sauce, garlic, and sugar, and grilled over hot coals. The pork was extremely tender and the flavor was incredibly good, especially when dipped into the chili dipping sauce. I have to say that it may have been some of the best grilled pork neck Ive ever had in Thailand so far. The meat was nearly perfect. Mam ) is a type of Thai sausage thats popular in the Isaan region of Thailand, and really, its very hard to even find in other parts of Thailand, even oddly in Bangkok. The sausage is quite lean, mixed with a bit of liver to give it a dark color, and then grilled. At Lab Som Phit ) they then sliced it into bite sized pieces and garnished it with a handful of slices green onions and cilantro. The sausage was amazing, and though Ive had it numerous times since this video, this was actually my first time to try it. What I really love about eating Thai mam ) is that the meat is very lean. It has almost the flavor of a hamburger or a Middle Eastern style lamb kebab, just a little more dry and less fat mixed into the meat. To round out our delicious Isaan food feast at Lab Som Phit ) in Korat, we also ordered a plate of tom moo, a soup of boiled pork and herbs, and also a plate of som tam Lao, green papaya salad prepared with fermented fish sauce. All the dishes at Lab Som Phit ) were insanely good, and I would have to say its one of the best restaurants I ate at while I was in Nakhon Ratchasima. If Im ever back again, this will likely be the first restaurant I stop at. Get more details about eating at this restaurant here: (and if you dont want to, you dont have to order the sok lek ) here, they also have plenty of other dishes as well) Open hours: 7 am 8 pm daily Prices: Our total meal cost about 300 THB (9. 25) 226, , 30000 . 044-245-026 7. 00-20. 00

Mark, I just wanna say that I have been following your videos since the beginning of your journey and you've come a long way. I know it creates a challenge for many of your viewers to watch you eat raw meat but I think it's the mark of an incredible mind and spirit for cultural diversity to try a different foods without necessarily entertaining the practice of eating it on a routine basis. I know there are many things we eat here in states that other countries might find repulsive. So I say thank you for strength to try it and share it with us.

You are very brave to eat those raw beef Mark because I can't even eat half cooked ones lol my father and mother in laws love eating larb however my father in law always drinks a lot of beer when he eats raw larb. So far no issues so I think drinking beer or like you say if they put alcohol in it, there won't be any problem.

that is one of the'' BEST '' and mist delicious dish there is, but i don't like it as much due to the blood only. to me, i rather have isan food for the rest of my life if i could. there's no other cuisine in this world compared to isan food. mark you' are one truly luck man to be able to do this for a living?

The faces you're making is not particularly becoming and can kind of off putting. Sorry. Just feedback. That is risky eating raw meat in a 3rd world country unless it was killed minutes ago. But good thing there's alcohol, you sure it's not bile? I love my country's food especially my region. Thank you for sharing

No alcohol in it just lemon grass and aromatics, but they let the blood sit w/ aromatics before the construct the dish. It's been awhile since I've seen this dish I had friends from Thailand as a child/teen. It scared me at first. But I do remember liking it.

I have a wife that resides in Khon kaen. And I find the food extremely delicious. I would like to try Sok Lek. As My Father in law cooks it once for our workers building a work roof ( I was not present. The object to this dish is fresh cow meat.

hands down to issan people and their food. if you westerners think and feel that the food is nasty just because you see blood, padeck, etc. you're mistaken and this is heavenly food best of the best from thai or lao.

You mention couple time that the food need to be more sour, but northern Thai food is less sour than what you find in the city. Isaan like their food on the salty, pungent, spicy less sour less sweet side.

Sok Lek is very good. Only had it once in a while Don't let the way it look fool you It's a dish you have to try once in your life A cold bottle of beer will also compliment this dish very well too

Sok Lek. with sticky rice and shared lao khao, with locals, is fantastic. But you do need to trust the seller and ensure the beef is fresh for obvious reasons. Worms can be an issue though.
