I raise two turkeys in my backyard, a white and bronze breast turkey. They are sickly as chicks and were raise with my chickens. We gave me herbal tea that we brew ourselves, garlic and lemon grass. I introduce them to the main coop once they are big enough because they out grow my regular chicks at a month old. The month old turkey chick is as big as a three month old chicken. Since they are raise with the chickens, they learn their rank and have learn to fear the older hens, which keeps it from fighting them a bit. They did start fighting my chickens at five months for the white turkey and four for the bronze one. Both of them are butcher and will make a great dinner.

from what I've heard a true heritage turkey would be a flighted bird with dark meat breasts. these, are just less mutated than the other ones. the white meat breast shows a flightless or nearly flightless bird. not the way turkeys were before being bread by humans.

It would be nice if you actually answered the question in the video title by doing a blind taste test with a couple of free-range heritage turkeys along with a couple of supermarket turkeys, all of them prepared using identical cooking methods.

I haven had a turkey like that before but I do hunt them and to chose a wild bird out of the woods or a store bought I will go with the wild one out of the woods taste way better a lot more work but worth it
reply

Organic people is getting out of hand. Anyone who hunt wild turkey will tell you that a butterball turkey taste 100% better. And you can't get more organic then a wild turkey.
reply

lol limy cant hunt and apparently neither do most the people who comment. guess what? these things are running around in the wild and you don't have to pay a dime for them. liberals.
reply

This is why I enjoy hunting more than average people do, not only do the animals get to live a healthier and longer life, but the food ends up tasting better.

I think this is an awful turkey day video because most people would've wanted to know this in advanced to prepare for the big day. also this video seems really familiar.

There are no hormones in comercially produced birds. It's forbiden to use it on the production, you should becareful not to spread lies. Get it togeter eater.

This doesn't even answer the question from the title. Do a taste test between supermarket and heritage turkeys that have the same lean-fat ratio. Then decide.
