I've made my own cranberry sauces and relishes for 2. 5 decades and this recipe is by far my favorite. I always use oranges but the addition of the cardamom pods adds so much to the flavor experience. My mother-in-law loves it too and she normally hates cardamom. In fact the first time I served it she didn't believe there was cardamom in it because it tasted so good and I had to shower the spice jar as proof! Thanks Hilah for once again being an important part our celebration.

-MrJingjong Most people are raised on the jellied stuff, were you? IF so did you ever try the whole berried canned stuff? It's freaking nasty. Cranberries have a very tough kind or skin along with prickly tops on the berries making them a really gross experience if you were brought up on purely the jellied sauce. Perhaps it is better from scratch with cooking them, never tried it myself, but I can say the whole -Fruit- canned cranberry sauce is nasty.

How is it possible that you look hot in that outfit?
Anyway, that sauce looks yummy. I always like sweet sauces with meat and that one looks like the good version of the IKEA meatballs sauce, shame cramberries are sooooooo expensive and difficult to find where I life, even frozen. Maybe raspberries could do a good option, they are still expensive but easier to get here.

-Fancylooks Haha! Thank you! :)
I agree about sweet sauces on meat. This does remind me of the lingonberry sauce at IKEA! It's not quite as sweet though. If you could find sour cherries they would be a good substitute! If you try with raspberries, maybe start with 1/2 cup sugar since they are sweeter than cranberries.

There's tons of flavor in the zest. If you leave the zest out the sauce will not be as intense and too sweet! I'm adding some pineapple and dried fruits for texture. Or for added flavor use some fresh lemon juice and lemon zest. Happy Turkey Day mmmmmVodka! -Jeff

I really think you shouldn't- have used the bitter white part of the orange. You would never eat the whole orange normaly so why put the whole thing in cranberry sauce. it comes out much better with just the pulp/juice & some zest! just a tip: ]

I'm cooking this now and it smells divine! Making it a few days in advance allows the flavor to really develop. I make it every year and have always done my own cranberry sauce but the addition of cardamom is a stroke of genius. Thanks Hilah. :)

Gonna try this. Never threw in the orange with the pith before. Just used the skin and juice. -
BTW, I've been looking for my cereal bowl everywhere and noticed you have it. Could ya return to me please? :-)

-Standard420247 oh, for sure. When cooking, you're basically making a compote and the fruit breaks down. There's a little texture, but nothing like the processed stuff. Hilah's cranberry sauce please!
