Someone in these comments said it best. These style choices made sense at the time they were made. Part of being a style icon is pushing boundaries. That is why Blair is on the list so much. Honestly, the thing I hated most was commitment to head bands. Its weird. I know its supposed to be like a crown but what fashionista is committed to one accessory like that? I was glad when she grew up and was rid of it.

omg the red tights outfit is one of my favorites from blair! its very much girly and a standoffishly brave from other outfits of her. it shows a totally different side and vibe from her classic, preppy and safe outfits while showing off her taste with how she makes the bold colors and the patterns work, it's a total breath of fresh air!

I like Blair and Serenas brunch looks! I would argue that Blair had a lot of ridiculous outfits with WAY too much going on. color, fabric, ruffles, lace, accents, cut- it was doing the most whats a tragedy is that Leighton is beautiful but those crazy outfits wore HER rather than her wearing the outfits

Serenas bridesmaid dress was definitely the worst.
The black with the yellow was awful.
Vanessas orange dress is a very close runner up.
I didnt actually mind Blairs ice skating outfit. Yes it was childish but it fit the brief of the nostalgic setting of holiday traditions with her father.

The only bad outfits in this video are Vanessa's and I cannot do anything but defend Blair cause everything she wears makes sense both in the fashion of 2007 and on the context of the show and her character. And Ive always considered Serena's yellow dress as one of the prettiest ones in the show

A lot of these outfits are suppose to symbolize the character is out of place in their environment or trying to hard to fit in. Vanessa's orange dress, Serena black to her bridesmaid dress is symbolizing her relationship/ wearing her heart on her sleeve. I can go on and on

Rich people often dress horrible. They buy expensive pieces but no clue how to match them and dress themselves nicely. Gossip Girl had some fantastic fashion moments but I believe it reflected that pretty well also, that luxury and standing out is most important.

Maybe these outfits are not something we would call perfect, buuut to me those were perfect to the script. Like, they were used to translate the confusion of characters in the moment. GG took advantage of cloths + plot combos all the time to build characters.
