How did We will rock you made it to number 8 but American idiot only got honorable mention? Come on! I saw WWRY in LA while on tour and the story is just BS. The second act is just trash. Ive also seen American Idiot and that made a lot more sense and it was pretty awesome.

If you could pick a genre or artist to CREATE a jukebox musical, what would it be?
Mine would be the music of Pink. So many of her songs already tell powerful stories and she has some major party jams to bring the energy, I think theyd work well to create a show around.

Head Over Heels is a cute jukebox musical with music from the Go-Gos. But it wasn't a huge success and closed quickly. Still, the cast was super diverse- I loved that the character who was supposed to be the most beautiful girl in the kingdom was plus sized.

Beautiful is one of my favorite musicals. I saw the tour on a whim to see Ben Fankhauser perform and have seen it on Broadway right before Kara Lindsay left the show. Such a good show. One of the few shows I can see multiple times and never get tired of it.
reply

I'm very convinced that some of the clips from We will rock you are from the german shows (except the two where the cast sings. It's amazing btw. Very powerful - obviously because it's Queen - but how they incorporate the songs is just wonderful -

the temptations and tina make black americans proud some numbers from both are underrated but make a difference mamma mia on the other hand maybe too catchy but still works the other ones i'd like to see just like respect the aretha franklin story

I didn't realize there were so many jukebox musicals. I saw Beautiful on Broadway, and Rock of Ages and Million Dollar Quartet elsewhere. I keep telling myself that I will see Jersey Boys and Mamma Mia, but haven't grabbed my chance yet.
reply

3. Mamma Mia - because its physically impossible not to sing along
2. Rock of Ages - because rock will never die
1. We Will Rock You (No. 8, seriously! What is wrong with you) - because you cannot beat Queen, period.

My favorite Jukebox musicals are: Thriller Live, the musical about the life of Michael Jackson and Sunny Afternoon, the musical about the real true story about the life of The Kinks and how The Kinks rose to fame.
reply

It'd be nice if they were all original stories. I feel it's more interesting if you can take existing songs and make an original story around them, especially if you don't have to change the words of the songs.

Watching this video out of curiosity, and will never understand why everything has to be turned into a lackluster musical that sounds nowhere near as good as the original? Seriously, a Green Day musical?
reply

I love that the Cher Show and Mamma Mia were both on here! And happy that On Your Feet and Head Over Heels were honorable mentions, at least.
Some more that should be here: & Juliet and Summer

A jukebox musical that absolutely needs to happen is Fleetwood Macs Rumours. Between the great songs and incredible story behind how the album was made, it would make for a phenomenal show!
reply

lol Motown the Musical was one of the worst shows I've ever seen. I would have replaced that in the honorable mentions with & Juliet, Movin' Out, or The Bodyguard
reply

Rock of ages deserves more love. Regina and Stacey Jax are both dream roles of mine. Rock of ages and Oliver were what started my love for theater
reply

Fun fact; One of the critics that lampooned WWRY never actually saw the show. Brain May found out and roasted them in an open letter published in the paper.
reply

Singing in the Rain is actually a jukebox musical. All of the songs (apart from Make Them Laugh and Moses Supposes) were first released in the 1920s and 30s.
reply

They should adapt Across the Universe for Broadway. I think it is better than a few of the shows on this list, but it was only ever a movie.
reply

I'm realized surprised that Xanadu on Broadway wasn't included! It not only adapted the movie musical, but improved upon it!
reply

Mamma Mia and especially All Shook up based around 25 Elvis songs and I was in the school version my high school senior year!
reply

The Buddy Holly Story didn't even get a mention! Like I knew not to expect Leader of the Pack, but like. it's SO GOOD.
reply

Never heard of Momma Mia.
I love musicals but, Hey no hate responses we all our opinions I didn't enjoy this video at all.

reply

Mamma Mia and Mamma Mia Here We Go Again are one of few movie musicals that could cheer me up when I'm sad or when I'm bored
reply

I haven't even heard of these musicals, but now they seem to be so interesting and intriguing that I want to watch them
reply

Shout the Mod Musical should have at least made honorable mentions. 60's hits sung by an all female cast? c'mon
reply

reply
