I was intrigued to watch a two year old video on ATS, always love your content Clint. I just picked up ETS2 a month ago on a steam sale, and the amount of content in the base version of that game is quite amazing. I didn't buy a single DLC pack from the sale, just the base game for $5. I'm not sure if its still the case in 2018, but I'd definitely recommend ETS2 to anybody on sale if you enjoy this sort of game. Unless you just prefer to take in the sights of the west coast USA, then I find ETS2 to be enjoyable for the different types of road systems and never quite knowing for sure how traffic operates in various countries (coming from an American perspective. Its similar enough, but has a few nuisances like the dredded two-lane traffic circle or the sudden need to be in the far left lane to avoid taking an exit. Just staying on the European Continent anyways, going to the U. K. really throws me for a loop and I forget simple things like how to approach a circle or which lanes I can turn in, also just the perspective leads me to making more boo-boos on the road than where you drive on the right side of the road in Germany etc. I'd probably find ATS to be a bit too familiar with driving on the Interstate and so on. ETS2 definitely has the price point, the mods, content, support, and so on in its favor. For essentially the same game, ETS2 is the one to go with as a new time player in my opinion. I've enjoyed it immensely so far.

I used to play the early games, mostly Pedal to the Metal. I also played it's competitor's games Hard Truck 2 and King of the Road(same game, more drivable vehicles, the nice thing on those where the variety of trucks and trailers.
I just touched ETS2 again since I bought on sale in 2014 just couple days ago, got some visual DLCs, etc. and then decided downloading ATS Demo again, and due some job selection crashes, I held myself from purchasing, but yesterday, I did it.
Yeah, unfortunately, there is just 4 trucks by now, but, apart the -boring- desert highways, despite the scale, I liked what they did with a good part of the cities, making they a bit more inviting, having more and different stuff other than mostly just the player service stations. With the Workshop, as place holder, it's possible to add few trucks(if you can find one among the mess) and some extra parts, but even it had dozens of trucks people would mod it anyway, it's one of the things that keeps people to these games, personalizing it, even if what what they mostly see are roads and don't pay attention to details like said on the video.

What sucks the most is, SCS didn't live up to their -free- state expansion promise and now want money for every state they release. Which is kinda fine by me, as long as the content is good. After all, you can't expect a company to continuously develop a game if they aren't making any money off of it. I love American truck simulator and have been an avid fan of these games since the early days of Hard Truck and Hard Truck 2. Hard Truck actually forced me into tearing apart my potato of a computer at the time and upgrading it. It was a Celeron 366 MHz, 32 Mb of ram, a PC-Chips all in one motherboard with integrated 8 Mb SiS 6326 AGP graphics. Ah the good old days. Awesome video as always Clint.

As much as I like this game, I prefer ETS2. Why? Well the countries may be smaller individually, but what there is of it is more intersting to drive through. A lot of ATS is spend driving in a straight line aling some desert highway, something that doesn't happen in cramped and small Europe, the Trucks/Lorries (delete as per preference) are types and manufacturers I'm familiar with (Hell, I live something like twenty minutes by car from the Mercedes corporate HQ) and generally all that makes it more engaging to me. What helps is mods, among them one that extends the playing field all the way to North Africa.

I was excited because I thought exploring the US would be great after Europe - and it is - but it's the lack of improvements, content and proper AA (really a shame for an otherwise beatiful game) that will keep me playing the ETS 2. Maybe that changes in the future, but as you said it's a bit unfortunate to have a fair priced, good game on the one hand and not much of an improvement, in fact partially steps backwards, on the other hand.

I'm pretty fed up with Truck Simulator. Recently got into them, started playing ETS 2, was like -oh, nice, this is so relaxing-. Only that i didn't do anything else since i started playing. This week-end, poof, gone! I got American Truck Simulator, so. Hell yea, i need some relaxation for like 12 hours a day. Addictive games. If this thing was as relaxing as i thought it is, i should be dead by now.

Am I the only one who thinks this game is the closest thing we have to a -good- version of Desert Bus? LOL!
I mean think about it, not only do you spend most of the game on long highways in the desert due to the location, but thanks to the addition of Arizona via the recent DLC, one can easily drive the exact same route as in Desert Bus (Tuscon to Las Vegas! XD

Man this game progressed so good, it fully supports DirectX11 now, it got a sound rework, new features like openable windows and stuff. Also all the new Map DLCs for a reasonable price expanded the game very much. Same thing for the Euro Truck Simulator 2, and even though i prefer ETS2, i still like to drive on ATS just for the American feeling; )
