While there are other reasons to hate him, I absolutely hate Uther for throwing Arthus into the Maw. Not only is he not aware of the whole story involving Arthus, even Arthus's own father's soul seemed to have forgiven him while he held him dying in his arms. And further more, he just played into the jailers hands by throwing him into the maw cuz then he was able to use his soul to forge a frostmourne 2. 0. I hate Uther for being a dumbass and a disgrace to paladins everywhere. Everyone deserves a second chance and it wasnt Uthers right to judge, it was the arbiters. The whole thing about vengeance he explained to Arthus really makes Uther a hypocrite if you ask me, since that's exactly why he threw arthus into the maw. Honestly before Uthers story in shadowlands I could either take him or leave him, but this expansion showing him throw Arthus into the maw, really makes me hate him more than any other character. By doing so hes no better than Arthus himself when he was under the influence of frostmourne and the lich king. Just another pawn of the jailer. Arthas could have been redeemed, nothing can redeem Uther for me. Arthus is beyond being brought back. His soul doesnt even exist anymore. And while I'm at it, screw sylvanas too, since the Arthus before wielding frostmourne would not have killed her, yet she thinks he deserves his fate. He was being mind controlled by the lich king, but everyone blames Arthus thinking everything he did when wielding frostmourne was his own actions. Arthus did nothing wrong in stratholme, and nothing wrong leading up to the events of picking up frostmourne. Its everything he did after killing Malganus, aka when he was a puppet, that was a problem. I dont get how no one in the wow universe noticed how once frostmourne broke, when he was being held by his father, how he was coherent once again. Arthus was back to himself in those moments, since his soul too was inside the frostmourne. If he wasnt suffering from a fatal blow, if they had just simply broken the sword, I believe he would have reverted to his old ways when he was a paladin, could have been redeemed, but probably would have remained a death knight, more akin to how the knights of the ebon blade and player death knights are. For real shadowlands did arthus dirty and it pisses me off, and thanks to it I now hate Uther and sylvanas more than I ever have, and it just makes Arthus more of a sympathetic character, since uther and sylvanas basically get a slap on the wrist in comparison, when sylvanas especially deserves worse than arthus since she doesnt have the excuse of being mind controlled. Uther should be stripped of his power in Bastion for going above the arbiter and taking matters into his own hands throwing Arthus into the Maw. Send Uther to Ravendreth where he should be forced to atone, and if he still doesnt repent and change his ways, throw him into the maw where he belongs. At least in the maw you still get to exist, unlike Arthus does thanks to you Uther.

Except Uther did listen to Arthas when he showed his doubts about his path, his anxieties. He didn't just pressure him about the great expectations he'd need to meet.
_-Lad, no one feels ready. No one feels he deserves it. And you know why? Because no one does. It's grace, pure and simple. We are inherently unworthy, simply because we're human, and all human beings--aye, and elves, and dwarves, and all the other races--are flawed. But the Light loves us anyway. It loves us for what we sometimes can rise to in rare moments. It loves us for what we can do to help others. And it loves us because we can help it share its message by striving daily to be worthy, even though we understand that we can't ever truly become so. So stand there today, as I did, feeling that you can't possibly deserve it or ever be worthy, and know that you're in the same place every single paladin has ever stood. -_
But Blizzard never remembers their own lore. I loved Uther, but Shadowlands ruined his legacy and put the final nails in the dead corpses of the Light and Paladin lore.

The most tragic part is how Arthas doesn't even struggle. In his mind, he too believes this is what he deserves.
And I'm just going to head things off by saying that while I personally think he deserved a proper trial and a punishment fitting his actions that I do not believe he is entirely guilt free either. While for the best of intentions, he still decided to go to Northrend and take up Frostmorne even though he knew it was cursed. And that act caused a string of actions that lead to the death and damnation of an untold number of innocent lives.
Regardless though, he did not deserve to be cast into the maw without a fair trial. And the fact he does not fight or struggle is indication of the guilt that weighed on him in that moment. Arthas, for all that he did, was once a good man who legitimately wanted the best for his people. And here at the end, he knows he cannot undo all that he did. So he accepts what he feels is a just punishment

even though Shadow Lands have become a total fail expansion the consept idea in my opinion was a good one.
saddly blizzard did not worked on this well enough and ruined it.
it never bothered me if Arthas was given some type of redemption, but my god do the fans raged about it like a lot?
guess most common wow fanatics don't understand the concept of forgiveness and redemption.
like yeah Arthas screwed up his whole country, but after learning what lies on the Shadow Lands? it really didn't matter, hate is a concept that last as long as you let it.
and if you don't you will eventually lead yourself to your own downfall.
in the end, it doesn't matter, the world moves on your hate means nothing in the end.

Bruh, that city must be purged, Arthas was not wrong there. He took actions when everyone did nothing. Jaina or Uther could've been by his side. He was facing such great foes and eventually, he stumbled upon Frostmourne. What did they think would've happened anyway? Arthas should be redeemed for sure. His death speech proves that he didn't want any of this from the start in WotLK. That said, I'm seriously lost here. Is Arthas going to be reedemed or not? This seems more like a Darth Vader case as each expansion goes by.
reply

my preferred way to bring arthas back would be some scenario where the jailor or one of his people is about to kill or turn Jaina, and Arthas somehow arrives on the battle field in the darkest moment to save her. just the thought of jaina opening her eyes, seeing the true arthas back and protecting her, and hearing her say -Arthas. - would just be amazing and emotional.
now of course this will not happen because blizzard is crap at writing.

to be honest i kinda hate world of warcraft i wise blizzard just make Warcraft IV and onward focus on continue main characters story (like a campaign story. arthas and illidan maybe. of course with Warcraft III Gameplay. warcraft III is kinda focus the story of arthas i guess. wow to me is just too much stories sometimes is kinda boring i don't have the patience to play it. this my own opinion don't take this seriously
reply

I always liked Arthas because he was a good villain. He wanted to protect his people and vengeance and it caused him to go on a path that lead to all of his foul deeds.
I feel like they've ruined Arthas and Uther. Granted I haven't read any of the books or played the game since Cataclysm. Seeing them so far from what I remember them as is quite jarring.

reply

tbh, they should bring back Arthas! At least, AT LEAST for Jaina! She deserves an eternity of peace with Arthas! Its been the longest for her now, her love and her wait! She now deserves to be happy too! I cant wait for that day! For them to hug each other and know, this time they won-t be separated and are with each other, always forever! -

Man, I'm coming back from having played through Uther's storyline through the Warcraft games and poking through the WOW expansions as they came out. I'm floored at the quality of the animations, the effects, the voice acting, and ofc the story telling that they've brought back to finish these characters stories.
reply

everything about the uther arc was good up until he said that Devos led him down a dark path and that he -it was not his choice-. sure devos manipulated him but ultimately he chose to throw Arthas into the maw for what he did, he chose retribution.
reply

All this, only for Blizzard to do Arthas dirty and have him as a fragment of a soul that just disappears.
What a joke, and an out of touch decision to make. This expansion has been a shit show lore wise, I would rather have BFA again.

reply

They really need to improve character motion. It is still not all that different form warcraft 3. They just refuse to truly upgrade the game and instead do all of these small updates that just point out the flaws even more.
reply

You know what this means? The King Will Return. At least I hope arthas gets a redemption arc, he kinda deserves it. Also I can just imagine his music playing as he returns in a blaze of glory to destroy his jailer.
reply

Arthas shouldn't be redeemed, he is a power hungry prince who did everything to gain his own political success. What he could do is to take the Maw after the Jailer to become more vile jailer himself. The damned king.
reply

As shitty as the game is I love Arthas and deathwing. 2 amazing bosses and characters introduced in a video game. I can't believe I bought the special edition for this expansion just to quit it because I had hope -
reply

I'm so tired of Blizzard trying to redeem mass murdering genocidal war villains. Arthas & Sylvannas are both responsible for the deaths of thousands of souls. There is no redeeming them or coming back from that.
reply

Ffs, author is kinda big Arthas fan. Too sad that there are so many ppl who likes him.
Edit: o, not only fan, but misogynist too. What an unexpected coincidence: -)

reply

Lich king Uther Kelthuzad all of them voiced by same person. Man he is truly the voice of wolk expansion. he is the voice of our childhood. Dont ruin wow more blizzard.
reply

We should have met Arthas in the maw or at least have some kind of quest from Kyrian to try to see if his soul can be redeemed. He was jailers pawn after all.
reply

So. do people forget that Arthas was deceived and mislead by Malganis purposefully or are they gonna keep saying he went out of his way to be an ass lol

-I will endure WHATEVER i must, to be whole again! - literally 5 seconds later -ow ow ow maywalker please hold my hand! i cannot endure this! -

Someone knows the song for the first scene? It is sometimes referred to as Ebon Hold voices chant, but I cannot find the version in this video
reply

I still don-t get it, I-m thinking Uther soul was in frostmourne and that even in all of his torment he still wanted redemption for his soul.
reply

One part of me happy and nostalgic.
One part of me says Wow is still milking the actually amazing Warcraft 3 lore and characters.

reply

World of warcraft now looks like diablo lolzzzzz glad I quit right after Wrath when the games was still amazing
reply

I like Patrick Seitz but I-ll never get used to him as Arthas. He says every line so overly dramatic.
reply

-Friends aid me-, bugger off blue boy your on your own lol. Now that's a realistic wow player scenario.
