Subscribe for more: - Movie robots fall into one of three categories: the cutesy ones who do repairs (C3PO, the menacing bad guys designed to inflict pain (Mechagodzilla, and the child-like naifs who learn about the wonders and horrors of the world through experience. Angry Nerd explains why Neill Blomkamp-s new sci-fi flick -Chappie- falls into the third group and he breaks down why we need more movies that cast robots as the wide-eyed outsider

I have high hopes for this movie, mostly because the people behind Chappie are the same people behind District 9, and I /loved/ that film. wait a minute! Both films had a central character that goes through a transformation, one social, one actually biological, that leads to them becoming a better person. oh, god, I hope this formula doesn't become overused. What are YOUR thoughts, Nerd, on what kind of outside transformation should occur to a central character to make a good film? Also, those guys that help Chappie? I think they're the perfect people to help him; who better than outsiders and weird people to teach him gentleness and humility?

R2-D2 hands down as my favourite movie robot. The big-ass robots from Pacific Rim were awesome, but I realise as I'm typing this that they don't fit this topic as they are still devices controlled by pilots so pretend I didn't write this. Wall-E is great. So is Iron Giant. The Cylons from Battlestar Galactica, both old and new, were awesome as well. Chappie seems to be very interesting too. I liked him from the first trailer already and can't wait to see it.

My favorite robot is my first robot encounter: -Robbie-the-Robot- in _Forbidden Planet_. That was the best sci-fi of the 50s by far, because it has a decent story. Of course -Robbie-the-Robot- was a very flawed and impractical humanoid design which was copied from then until CGI came to the rescue. The most innovative robot design I've seen has to be the one in _Interstellar_. unexpectedly interesting.

Optimus Prime. I love that guy. As terrible as T4 was, one line from that film rings true, -You just want to die for the guy. - Optimus Prime is one of the greatest leaders of all time time, his speeches are so moving, his ideals are just, and he is willing to lay down his life for them. What more could you want? and don't get me started on his oh so awesome voice. Peter Cullen FTW!

Terminator 2. Best robot movie ever. How much you get attached to the Terminator, you have to admit you cry at the end when he sacrifices himself to ensure the future of the human race. And lets not forget how funny it is when John tries to teach him to be -less of a dork-.

Cyborg totally counts right? Yes he was in Teen Titans the T. V show but there was a Teen Titans movie with him in it. anyway, he is my favorite movie robot also Data from Star Trek, FemBots from Austin Powers, and of course Wall-E because how can you not love Wall-E.

Although its not exactly a movie robot, Android Kikaider is my favorite robot. Perfect mix of the awesome battle droid and the whole Pinocchio learning to be a human story. The specific version I like is the early 2000s anime that came out.

It's a real shame that -Chappie- was such a massive disappointment with awful storytelling and unlikable human characters. I really wanted it to be Neil Blomkamp's next big film. I just hope the new Alien film is better.

C3PO and R2D2 will always be my favorite robots, er, droids. And even tho I HATE rap music, I liked Chappie. It was a lot better than the other robot movie that came out in 2015, Ex Machina.
