1982 was going to be the nerdiest year of film anyone had ever seen as pulp genre films took over the mainstream in a major way. Most of the world would get their first look at computer generated special effects in Tron’. A weirdly fleshy alien would capture hearts around the entire world. A different fleshy alien would try to take over the world. A Blade would run, and a Conan would barbarian. Honestly, it was hard to imagine what other movies could do to compete What was YOUR favorite movie of 1982 Let us know in the comments!

Next up: 1983: the year that not 1 but 2 James bond movies were released, the official bond film octopussy and the unofficial bond film never say never again. Also, twilight zone the movie, sudden impact (the 4th dirty Harry movie) wargames, superman 3 and a Christmas story were released and we also got 3 films from Stephen King that year also: Christine, cujo & the dead zone. And i can't forget about star wars episode 6: the return of the jedi.

watching this video was like being dragged kicking and screaming back to being a junior in high school. In 1982, I was in 11th grade I still own some of these movies on DVD to this day. I. e, The Verdict and Poltergeist, Raiders of the Lost Arc, and Star Trek: the Wrath of Khan.

My fondest memory of 1982 movies was watching Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan the night of my high school graduation. A few years later on, I got to meet George Takei at a Trekkie convention and also at book signing at a Walden Books.

No mention of Friday the 13th Part 3 in 3-D It was the first film of the summer to knock E. T. out of the #1 box office position after about 10 weeks. Also, the first film in the franchise with the now iconic hockey mask!

I still think they smoked up balled their fist up and looked at their hand said Hey, this could be something! The bulging eyes can go here and put little legs on this. YES! We'll call this E. T! Lmao! Still have the VHS!

I'll never forget as a 7-year-old my mom taking me, my brother, and cousins to watch E. T. at the drive-in theater in the old '77 station wagon with the fold-up seats in back. The Green Monster, we called it!

The one I remember most from 1982 was Crrepshow. Written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero, that movie was my ultimate horror film. It introduced me to Stephen King and anthology films too.

Though probably unintentional, a weird segue nonetheless from the Twilight Zone the Movie which starred Vic Marrow to Fast Times at Ridgemont High a movie starring his daughter Jennifer Jason Leigh

I'll be right here. ET will never not make me sob buckets. Henry Thomas was such a phenomenal young actor. He carried a maturity which belied his young years. Little Drew Barrymore was also great.

Secret of NIMH scared the bejeezus out of me when I was a kid (especially the tractor scene- IYKYK, but I still loved it so much. I loved that the hero of the film was a widowed mom of 4.

Annie didn't open in March. It opened May 21, 1982. And the photo you use for 48Hrs is actually from 1990's Another 48Hrs. Gonna ask for a bit stronger research from you guys.

We promised our daughter a puppy for her 5th birthday in 1982. She named it ET; however, she had to change it to Miss ET. She was the best dog ever and lived 17 years.

More specifically it was the _summer_ films of 1982 that turned out to be a watershed in (US) cinema history, with the genre films dominating the box office.

I think by Today’s Standards, Paul Newman’s Performance in The Verdict (1982) would have earned him an Oscar over Ben Kingsley from Gandhi.

The Thing came out June 25th and was demolished by E. T, hated by critics, and flopped, but is now seen as one of the greatest horror movies ever made.
reply

I wasn't around in the 80s, but I sure love the movies! E. T, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, TRON, Blade Runner, and many others I love from 1982.
reply

Vic Morrow was Jennifer Jason Leigh's father. He was killed in the Twilight crash and never got to see the premiere of her movie Fast Times.
