FYI - for anyone suffering from head lice - there is a non chemical treatment that works on adults and eggs and it is very useful when you have no one to help comb out the nits.
Mayonnaise!
You cover your hair completely with mayonnaise, use cotton or paper towel around the base of your hairline (all the way around) and then cover your head with a plastic bag securely around the hairline. Leave it like this for 8 hours. Remove the bag and the cotton or paper towel and then wash your hair. Do not forget to wash your pillows and blankets as well as vacuum your bed or couch. Also wear and old shirt and do not lean back on your good couch as the mayonnaise may drip leaving an oily stain that will not come out.
I know this method works because I have used it myself and on friends when the chemical medicines prescribed by doctors just didn't get rid of the problem. It works because the ingredients in the mayonnaise (along with the plastic bag) smother the adults and pickle the eggs. You will have a greasy film on your hair for a week but this also helps to prevent new ones from reattaching.

I agree the main problem is THE FREAKING EGGS! like I am a student and don't have time to sit and struggle with my hair every week when I am barely sleeping, eating and keeping up with my academic work
I remember having short hair last summers but the thing is that those eggs are attached mostly near the roots
and it feels so embarrassing going to the hair salon with these hair lol
(Should I go bald this summer)

I had lice for a long time, no matter what i did it never went away. This one time my mom crushed camphor and mixed the powder with curd and lemon, smeared my scalp and washed it off after 2 hours. I've been lice free for 9 years now.
warning: it did damage my hair a bit, became a little course but after some care my hair is healthy again and it's a deal i would take anyday.

It was the worst thing to get lice two years in a row and each time lasting 3-4 months
I found the best treatment, unfortunately, was mayo. Slathered my hair in it and put it in a shower cap for an hour then had someone comb it out
It makes me nauseous to even smell mayo now but I had done everything up to that point and it finally got rid of them

Almost two decades ago, there was an infestation of head lice at my old elementary school. I was one of the unlucky ones and had to endure sitting in a chair for 2-3 hours (for 3 days) while my Mom examined every strain of hair on my head. And after all that, I got my hair cut short and looked terrible.

When my mother was little living in her little Greek village (around 1960, people used petrol as a lice treatment. Thankfully, when I had lice as a kid, she only used the comb on me and some treatment (shampoo) the doctor prescribed. She also used to always dye her hair as she was working as a teacher.

I had them once as a kid, mom gave me a buzzcut (I'm a guy) and agressively washed my head till the remaining eggs died. Few years later my sister had them and it was a bigger problem, she also got a haircut but still had lots of hair, so it took weeks till she was free of lice

It wasn't until I watched this video that I understood the danger of hair lice. Being resistant to chemical breakdown, we can't get rid of eggs laid by lice by using lice shampoo. A fine-toothed nit might be effective at removing them.

The best way to get rid of nits is to use your nits comb after a hair bath, first detangle your wet hair slowly with a large tooth comb, then run your fine tooth comb. After every shower, till you are sure they are done and dusted.

When I was a kid, I got head lice, and my mother had to use a nit comb to remove them. It was a really unpleasant experience. I wish we had known this information at the time

I remember having lice, it was so bad I had to get it professionally treated. It smelled like lemons, so now whenever I smell lemon cleaner, I think of lice treatment!
