Dig into the science of thermal batteries, and how this technology can generate heat more efficiently than fossil fuels. -- Industrial manufacturers spend a huge amount of energy generating heat to make everyday materials and objects, like cement, steel, and paper. And since most companies use fossil fuels to reach these high temperatures, industrial heat accounts for 20% of our annual global carbon pollution. 2: 36 Do you mean megajoules Or megawatt-hours Because megawatts are units of power, not energy.
I will say, though, that this idea is nowhere near as insane as it seems - a modern tank-type water heater can store a significant fraction of an EV's battery capacity as heat for days on end. There are already smart grid systems that cool or heat houses when electricity is cheapest and rely on the house's generous insulation to keep the temperature under control when the climate controls are switched off (though they haven't always gone smoothly)

2: 35 - You can't store hundreds of megaWatts of energy, because Watts aren't a unit of energy. They're a unit of power. You could store 100 megaWatt-HOURS of energy, which would all be used up by turning on a million 100-Watt light-bulbs and leaving them on for one hour. That would use up exactly 100 megawatt-HOURS of energy. If some energy source output at 100 megaWatts, and it could run forever, then it could keep those million 100-Watt light-bulbs burning forever. It's a time-for-time matchup.

0: 07 - Odd coincidence. Just one day ago, two at most, I saw an analysis of what may have been the longest-running hoax at Wikipedia, which involved assigning to the invention of the electric toaster not to Strite but to some other person, maybe one who didn't exist, or existed much earlier, or didn't exist until later. The hoax was so prevalent that you might receive corrections from people who believe you're wrong about Strite being the name of the inventor.

I guess it is time to do some research into this area. I would love to have something like this at home, but this looks more like a mass storage than a home storage. Again. need to do some research. BTW, it is common that electricity has different price at different times of the day. late night time is usually cheaper than day time, so, if you could just store energy during the night and use it during the day, you could reduce significantly your energy bill.

Problem with these miracle inventions is if they are so good, why aren't they being used If it's not financially feasible to keep using fossil fuels to do this, it would make sense from a company's standpoint to go with this.
There is clearly something wrong with this that isn't explained. At least the downsides of solar and wind were recognized instead of playing them off as the greatest thing since sliced bread. Its now this

I hope we can use heat batteries on a smaller scale some day. Using AC when it's hot generates heat and a lot of people live in temperate places that have 4 seasons. It would be great to store the heat generated by cooling in the summer to use later for warming in the winter. However, that might require condensed very hot bottles, or a substantial amount of less intense thermal mass in a single family basement.

Great rundown of how it works, this topic deserves so much more focus and attention!
Suggestion for a future video, maybe compare different kind of power storage like pumped storage hydro and this, and show how using solar/wind storage can perform against other kinds of generation like fossil fuel and fission!

1: 45 how is resistive heating more efficient at generating heat than burning natural gas Both gets converted into heat in their entirety. Where that electricity will be bought from other than the grid 2: 34 confusing instantaneous power and amount of energy. 3: 46 if it is so much cheaper as you say, then the incentives are already there. No need to funnel tax money into corporation's pockets.

I was surprised to learn that industrial heat accounts for such a large proportion of global energy consumption and carbon pollution. Thermal batteries seem like a promising solution, especially with their high efficiency and cost-effectiveness. I'm wondering how long the brick thermal batteries can store energy before needing to be recharged.

What is the output of such a battery How many batteries, each 12m3 in size, would be required to provide the heat needed for a certain industrial application The idea is good, but there are many places in the world where space is a luxury and so these are the questions that people in those places will be asking.

The idea and the concept are good but when you account for the energy conversion losses it can be less efficient and more expensive than burning things. The tecnology is evolving and we will find ways to overcome those losses but in today's circumstances it's not so easy like the video implies.

looks like you left out the MOST important part of your amazing new energy storage scheme; PLEASE TELL US THE TRUTH ABOUT THE DISMAL EFFICIENCY ASSOCIATED WITH CONVERTING THE HEAT BACK INTO A USEFUL TYPE OF ENERGY SUCH AS ELECTRICITY WHICH CAN BE USED REMOTELY FROM THE HEAT BATTERY

Pro: Cheap materials, simple, reliable, materials are abundant, environmental friendly, long life span and safe.
Con: Require bigger size for more storage efficiency, only suitable for large scale storage battery.

When I thought of turning a brick into a battery, I thought of building a tower and a pulley, and putting some bricks on it. Hoist it up when storing, let it go down when extracting.

What are the drawbacks It can store energy for long periods of time and is cheaper than fossil fuels, so there must be someting stopping everyone transitioning to this cheaper solution.

We can do this! If we work together, and change the incentive systems that have been built up over centuries, we can preserve our planet for future generation.
