Aural dictation and ear training is a must for all wanting to expand their musical skills. Develop the ability to hear music and to write it down. The course begins with a number of simple exercises in notating rhythm and pitch, before progressing to more intricate melodic dictation, then progressively on to work in two parts, three parts, and four parts. A useful resource for School, College, University and Diploma exam preparation. Equipping yourself with the skills of Aural Dictation will also help with sight reading composition and performing. It is also a fantastic musical liberation when one can look at a piece of music and know how it sounds. Sign up today and unlock this essential musical skill!

I am a Bengali Indian from Calcutta. I can follow the staff notation more or less moderately. What hinders me in aural dictation is the fact that pronouncing notes in either CDEF or do, re mi,fa system seems to me a little tongue twister. Otherwise I can understand the logic of intervals, melody and harmony written on the staves. Rhythm and time signatures as well.

Sometimes they play the scale in the Dalcroze way. Or La diapason to identify the scale before the aural dictation . Would you explain the La diapason please?
