Why didn't the Ottomans conquer Persia? If the Persian Shahs would stop running away to Far East Iran in order not to fight against the Ottoman army, Persia would be conquered even before suleiman I. It-s just a cowardly behavior to leave his capital and running away everytime like a kid. Even if they haven-t the power to fight the ottomans they shouldn-t try to ally with Europeans or support internal revolts in order to destabilize them. No logic to call a Safawid state as mighty if they leave their capital several times and were to cowardly to fight against their enemies. Instead they let their women-s and fled to Iranian mountains so no one can find them. The Safawids had one of the most ancient and smart people inside their state. It-s just a shame even if it-s a Turkic dynasty. You should also mention that Iran was completely Sunni. After Shah Ismail took over the falling state of the Timurids he has done everything to assimilate and oppress the Sunni population in order to make them change their -religion-\r\n

Mountainous topography? Fresh water scarcity? Long distance? Why these reasons could not stop Achaemenids, Timurids, Alexander the great, Mongols, who occupied both Anatolia and Persia and had a decent management over these territories? Why Ottomans couldn't do this while they lived in rather technologically developed period?
The answer: Ottomans and Safavids were regional kingdoms with the same weight category. These kingdoms' military capability were way too limited than the empires who ruled over Anatolia and Persia single-handedly

Of course, it should be noted that Iran's defeats against the Ottomans were due to the traditional nature of the Iranian army. And in front of the Ottoman army, it was fully equipped with firearms. -
In the battle of Chaldaran, the Iranian army had swords and bows in hand, but the Ottomans were equipped with cannons and guns. -
But later Shah Abbas Safavi solved this problem to some extent and defeated the Ottoman army in several battles.

Persia was not just Iran. But also Afghanistan, a part of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. It had capitals and big cities in mainly Iran and Afghanistan. It-s best and strongest army units was from these two parts. Persia-s city of knowledge and most famous poets was from Afghanistan. They shared the same language etc. Also the afghan part of Persia were mainly Sunnis like the ottomans. So all the Persia wasn-t only Shias.

logistics is impossible for such war in that region. it's like crossing the bering strait. also the anatolian population then and turkmens were almost entirely shia/alevis. like the turkic speaking people of iran today. they were massacred for this reason and replaced with sunnis in the coming years which is a type of genocide still going on today under erdogan's regime.

Safavids were turks, as well as later Qajars, Afsharids, Ottomans etc. The only reason why brother nations and indeed ruling relatives of some of 24 Turkish tribals that stayed in origin of all above mentioned dynasties, fought each was religion. Shakh Ismail turned initial Sunni population into Shia and the weakning progress of Turkish power in the region began.

The only reason these azerbaijanis calles safavids as azerbaijani empire, its only because their little non existent country needs history. You can't find anything interesting in safavids or qajars or seljuks era. they were just bunch of turban wearer's that's it. They are nothing in front of achaemenids and parthians and sassanids and samanids.

Not convincing. When Arabs able to conquer Persia, Central Asia and reach upto the shores of Sind crossing all the desert and same terrian why not Ottamans.
Infact Ottamans secured Whole Arabian Peninsula, Levent. Reason possibly could be Ottomans are more obsessed with Europe

saddam had the same difficulty with modern armour. the mountain proved to be a big challenge, and the barely made it into the flat lands of iran. they would pass mountains into the flat lands and get beaten because they were trapped on the other side of mountain without supplies
reply

Because they couldn't! So they came to easy small European countries.
And buyed some fake glory.
The ottomans were lucky, if abbas I of persia (safivds) or nader of persia (afsharid) were lived abit longer ottomans would lost all of their territory.

reply

The main reason for Iran's defeat in the Chaldaran war was only one thing! We Iranians had bows and arrows, and they had cannons and guns! If we were equipped, we would have confused the Ottoman dynasty up to Constantinople
reply

I think it's not about geography, well achemenid empire founded and conquered all those areas like piece of cake, maybe it's just failure in military strategy and lack of ambition or lack of skill or some sort of stuff
reply

ottoman army equiped with cannons but persians was only cavalry man.
Wherever They see ottomans were coming They escaped. 6 months later yavuz was tired. It was difficult to pursue cavalry man. That was main reason.

reply

Turks did conquer it. today Shia Iran was established by Turks. the Ismailis (Turkic tribe) started the 12th Imam ideologie in Iran. They did it by force ofcourse. If you didn't convert to the shia you get killed.
reply

Meanwhile Iranians fought with the Ottoman empire, fought with Britain and eastern invaders too. We have always shown great effort and perseverance against enemies. Now who are the bloody Israel or USA!
reply

Why march aceoss Anatolia? My first thought would be to sail with an army to Georgia or a nearby Ottoman controlled beach, and then attack the western part of Persia from the Caucasus region.
reply

Persia has already under control of turks, safevi is anaother turkish country not persian, we say arrow from brother to brother for wars between Ottoman and safevi
reply

At that time, the country's name was Iran too(and also before that) but just in other countries, they called it Persia. by the way, the correct pronunciation is Eeran.
reply

its because the persians-shia muslims are the muslim brothers of sunni ottomans, and respected Prophet Mohammed's family legacy residing in persia
reply

It-s not about just Ottomans no other country and empire could stay in Iran long that wise called Iran oldest country in the modern world
reply

Alexander the great conquer Persia,
Mongols conquer Persia also
Why couldn't the ROMANS or OTTOMANS conquer PERSIA also?

reply

The Ottomans was busy fighting most of Europe, and did not want to waste their time and resources on Persia, there's your answer.
reply

Well the Safavid Empire was a Turkish Empire also. The Persians were governed by Turkish dynasties over the centuries.
reply

Compare it with the Rashidun Caliphate who conquered Persia swiftly, of course the Sahaba were the best of our Ummah!
reply

most of time commanders were Turks in Safavies, and I can say Turks fought against Turks as like Ottoman vs Temur
reply

Videos like this make me realize how truly mind boggling Alexander the Greats' extensive conquests were.
reply

Better answer, Turks could never defeat Persians, Persia was defeated only three times in the whole history --
reply

because they had kings like Shah Abbas and Nader Gholi Afshar They defeated the Ottoman Empire several times.
reply

Because they were evenly matched and large scale war would leave ottoman empire in a vulnerable position
