The Austro-Prussian War - Explained in 11 Minutes I always thought why Germany didn-t just claim Austria (the part that was already in the German confederation) and give the representatives of the Austrian states some power. I am not a European monarchie buff but if Bismarck wanted a unified Germany in my opinion that would have been the best option. Especially because Bismarck was aware of the tensions within the Balkan which resulted in the start of WW1.\r\n

Very intresting how Bismarck treated Austria under the Treaty of Prague as well as refusing to invade Austria. This nice treatment set up the long standing Austria and German alliance that would impact the world heavily leading to World War 1 breaking out

What a missed opportunity by Bismarck. Had he appealed to a near rebellious Hungarians, and after the Austrian defeat, Austria could have been incorporated within a large Germany. Leaving Hungary as an ally to the south. Probably avoiding World war I

Taking Alsace-Lorraine was going to make france permanent enemies. The region was also rich in coal, iron ore and other vital materials which boosted German industry & was kept from France until it's return in 1918.

Correction! Slesvig was not just a -Danish controlled region-. It WAS Denmark! Ancient Denmark, before Denmark was formally mentioned on the Rune stone in Jelling more than 1000 years ago-.

Franz Joseph the first? Isn-t that the emperor of Austria Hungary? He would-ve died before then. And yes I do know about Charles I.
