I have a 2003 stock GTI VR6, and am the original owner for 16 years running. Other than yearly full synthetic oil changes, a good wax job (the car, not me, and keeping the car mostly garaged when not in use, I have not had to put much money into it. I have had no major repairs all these years, just a bad cooling fan, and a muffler replacement. Mechanically, it has been the most reliable car anyone in my family has owned by far, and its still looking and driving like new. Interestingly enough, I have never changed the manual (6 speed) transmission oil, and according to VW, never have to. Its good for the life of the car. When you buy a VW, you either get a great, reliable, solid car or one that requires much maintenance. Perhaps I got lucky?

Made the mistake of buying a 2001 Passat 1. 8T when it came out. worst car ownership experience ever. My Hyundai Elantra never visited the workshop except for normal services as much as this German built wonder. the engine got gunked because they used the wrong oil at the dealership. the vacuum lines had to be replaced. heat exchanger failed. the coil packs failed twice. When they told me the cost of a clutch/flywheel replacement. I just laughed and followed the Scotty school of thought and walked to the Toyota dealer for a trade-in a new Corolla.

Where my mechanics at I have a 2002 Nissan Frontier that is having electrical issues when I drive it during the day and dont run headlights or heater it runs fine but drive it at night with heater and lights it starts jumping and hopping at 3500 rpms turn everything off and it runs fine I have had the alternator and battery tested and they tested good I have checked all the fuses and they are good checked the ground its good I need help

Nice build, I bet it makes people look suprised when it takes off full boost at the lights. That Subwoofer placement in the spare tire space is a great idea, hmm I might copy that hahahaSo they built the MKIV GTi till 2006? but the MKV was already available in 2003 so did they sell these side by side for 3 years? that sounds strange. In my opinion a MKIV Phase II is a much better choice compared to a first edition MKV model

Scotty i need your help, Im in the market for a new vehicle and Im trying to get it asap so it has to e reliable and be no more than around 2. 5-3k what is your opinion on volkswagens particularly the passat. Its a car my dad recommended but Im trying to steer towards something japanese like a honda but my dad hates those things. What do you reccomend

Personally I wouldnt own an American automobile due to its incompetent cheap parts such as the Camaro or Mustang. Honestly I would prefer a German engineered vehicle over something some hoosier or Redneck manufactured. Youre able to compare and contrast this by simply observing the behavior of the foolish old American individual who made this video.

LOL Craigslist is filled with broken GTIs and Jettas. If you are a young kid and really want a GTI, buy a MK3 with the ABA engine. If you have some wrenching skills, buy a MK3 VR6. Newer VWs with the immobilizer and the 1. 8t and 2. 0ts are for VW veterans. MK1s are for people who want to get off of crack or meth; very addictive cars so stay away.

My stock 2016 Honda Pilot can go 0-60 in 5. 9 seconds (factory claims 6. 1, which is faster than this. I just dont get it, why spend all that money in time and end up with something slow. A used V8 anything and certain V6s will outrun this thing.

Ignore the haters, they dont understand. ;) The 1. 8T is a very tuneable engine. It was available with 225bhp as standard in the Audi TT. These days, the GTIs dont seem as popular; people seem to be going for the Golf R, which is very quick.
