As Marty correctly mentioned, Lotus also made 'Kit Car's' back in the 60's and 70's. The kits were 'Value Added Tax' (Purchase Tax) free. To stop people taking advantage of the 'build it yourself' cars, the British Government made a rule that you could not provide assembly instructions with the kit. Lotus got around this rule by providing a book of 'How to disassemble your Lotus' All you had to do was start at the back of the book and work your way through to the beginning to assemble your car. Colin Chapman was an expert at bending rules.

Sorry it's a sports car (lightweight, fun to drive, great in corners and hill climbs) like a caterham, Supercars generally don't have inline4 and often over 400hp with top speeds closer to 200mph than 150mph, An Evora could be classified as a supercar (despite the v6) but just because this is exotic doesnt make this a supercar any more than an MR2. I'm british so it pains me to say this.

Saw the title and was like nooooo, don't sell out and get a Lambo. The Exige rolled in and my faith in MCM was restored 100%. Gotta love Lotus and it fits with MCM perfectly, just enough JDM to make it work. Also, the Exige is 100% supercar no matter what a lambo poser might say: P It's built for minimum compromise track performance, has insane power to weight and looks the business.

Not a supercar, a super track car maybe. The non working gauges are just the start, its a LOTUS so the engine will be fine as its standard Toyota goodness but trim, electrics, under trays etc will come off or break.
Brilliant when they're sorted, just won't stay that way. Enjoy the journey.

Also as my family is big lotus and porsche people. I would say sports car not super car. But each to there own. And if you want an idea for an unloved car project. Try the 7th gen celica. I think you will be surprised. They are way way to underrated

honestly its an investment might take 20 30 years but one day it will be worth something. Ive got my superannuation cars! A couple a70 supras and an original trueno ae86.

As far as I understand the Delorean was based on a Porsche and an Alfa Romeo, and built by a Pontiac engineer, I don't recall it ever having anything to do with lotus?
