I have used a heat gun, for the area around my garage which was icy, but not used it on the car. Maybe on a low setting and at a distance it could work well at defrosting. I had the experience last week when I took it to my annual inspection (MOT in the UK) and the doors would not open because it was the coldest day this winter. So it failed, but luckily passed the second attempt. Reflecting on this, I would have used the heat gun on the door (not the glass, just to make sure it opened. Thanks ChrisFix for your tips!

I ve put de-icer in a spray bottle in situations where door handles are frozen as to not pop em clean off (it s happened) also on the edges of doors when they are stuck. I also recommend a quick bump into your door before attempting to open it as this will crack any ice that s frozen on your door. Making it easier to open and not risking breaking your door handle.

Last week there was freezing rain at my place. Wish I would've covered my windshield. Ice was half a centimeter thick. No way of removing it without damaging paint/glass. Decided to warm up the interior with the hairdryer. After about an hour the ice started to melt and I was able to go, but it was pretty rough.

I prefer to use a garage, myself; saves a whole lot of messing about. But I understand not everyone has the use of one, or may be parked away from home. One technique that has served me well for ice on glass was to pour lukewarm water onto it; warm enough to shift ice but not hot enough to crack glass.

i had a small daewoo tico car and every winter i used another method although a bit louder, i put a subwoofer in the trunk and every time i had snow on my car i just started the car and put the volume up my car shaking so hard in a couple minutes all snow ice everything bounced off: )

I will say, besides trash bags, I had a spare wide blanket to use. Although static didn't cling to the blanket, I try to cover the windshield as a whole and use the front doors to hold the blanket in place. Came off the next day with no snow or ice on the windshield.

I live in finland and for past 10 years i have been using woven floor mats (like those reeeealy old style handmade mats) on my windshield. they are heavy so they stay in place and they allso insulate a littlebit so my car interior wont get so cold

Hopefully these tips are helpful. The weather has been horrible here with snow ever couple of days which has put a hamper on filming my regular How-To videos. Hopefully the snow melts soon! I have some awesome videos coming!

That combat parking trick is entirely dependent on whether you have rear or front wheel drive! You want the wheels with traction to face inwards, so they can push through whatever show there is at the end of your driveway!

Awesome tips Chris, thank you! Any tips on how to keep your mirrors water-free? Sucks when water is preventing you from seeing clearly on the passenger side mirror while driving =/
