Gasoline is a strong solvent, but the additives plus dirt from the road/air can gum up the seal on the cap causing leaks. 3 minutes of cleaning with silicone lube and a qtip every so often should keep the evap system intact and functioning for a long time. Once you start paying attention to it, youll be surprised at how quickly the gunk builds up, but a bit of maintenance here will save you in the long term - no parts to replace and better mileage from less evaporative loss.

Missed an opportunity to say why you shouldn't overfill the gas tank. If you get it too full liquid can get forced into the evap canister and wreck it, which will leave you with at best a constantly on check engine light. When the gas pump shuts off, give it ONE more shot, in case the shutoff was a misfire, then stop. If you are at the pump going click click click, you are working at messing up your car

I'd like to see a video showing one of the other fixes that would cause a P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak. The gas cap is way too easy of a fix. How about replacing an evap canister vent valve? Now that's an instructional video that I could use.

Hi Chris, the check engine light came on on my miata 2014. After I located the reason (loose gas cap) and tightened it up, the light remains on. I have driven it for about 30 miles with half tankful, and the light is still on. What should I do next?

so can i just go buy a new gas cap at autozone or do i have to get on thats for my car. i have a mazdaspeed 3 and the only thing in my gas cap is what turns the rachet broke off so i only have the little filter

Is Ford and Mazda vacuum or pressurized, and how do you know the differences. I have one code on my 99 Ford F 150 and it's killing me, it's a po171, and it's not the xgen sensor.
