NOTE: If you live in Canada, servicing your own brakes will void your auto insurance policy immediately. That means you're on the hook financially for any loss or damage that results from you getting into a crash. Also, you will be subject to criminal prosecution for altering/servicing your vehicle's brakes without a mechanic's licence. Just FYI for people who watch these videos. In a perfect world (which we don't have, it would be possible to DIY a brake job. My grandfather used to fix his own brakes all the time. Today however, the government (working in tandem with insurance companies) has taken all of the personal ability out of the population and made people useless by legislating DIY project in all forms of industry out of existence. There's almost nothing that you can legally fix by yourself these days.

Thank u Im not a mechanic but I like to watch those videos and know what kind of parts the mechanic is putting on. I wish I can be a mechanical Im really sick and tired of bad and corrupt mechanics. They charge a lot of money just to put a coil on my van or to change a alternator. I know it doesnt take the long my ex is a mechanic hell do anything in minutes except for a motor or transmission. Thank u. U explain really good. Fresno, CA.

This is a great video. Thought I would watch it to remember how to do this since it has been so long. I really like the safety reminders. The brake spring adjuster tool is very helpful and it would be great if in a future video (if you are still doing this) contains suggestions on how to use. We knew a guy growing up who poked one of his eyes out doing a drum brake job. Back then, no one wore safety glasses. Thanks again!

Ended up getting automatic adjusters from autozone. They were too long! Difficult putting the drums on and scorched the pads for a few miles til I took it to someone and we deduced it was the adjusters, as we compared them. It was only like 2 or 3 threads. We grinded then down and everything has been great since. This guide was a lifesaver.

first of all, the dust and rust is toxic, should have a mask on and good idea to lay out newspaper or cardboard underneath, after just throw away. i always put half of the tires underneath the car where the back doors are for safety, or use a stand on the frame thks

I have a 99 Tahoe that needs rear brake shoes. I'm either gonna change to after market disc or replace the shoes. I'll need to drums so it might be best to opt for disc. Your thoughts please.
