Hey Chris. This was a big help for me, but I'm thinking there are a couple thing I ran into that you could include in a new video. I had the jam nut frozen solid on both sides. I didn't have an angle grinder around so I had to burn 90+ minutes on cutting the inner rod with a hack saw only to find out that the depth of the rods ball and socket was too deep for the tie rod end removal tool and I had to ask around for a ride to another parts store. For anyone reading this: when you do the test fit with the tool in the store don't just test that the key fits on the tie rod end TEST IT WITH THE KEY AND THE PIPE PORTION OF THE WRENCH BEFORE YOU CHECK OUT! Also I wish I realized I could have just cut the jam nut off with a file-- similarly time consuming, but way easier than cutting through the tie rod itself. I live in New England so basically everything was rusted together. It was a bigger project than I thought it was, but doable for your average hobbyist for sure. Thanks again!

I'm just doing one of these wanted to comment that instead of that pin that locks the tie rod, there may be a locknut, I have one on a 07' subaru and I'm assuming other cars probably have the same. I had to use a punch and small screwdriver in 2 spots to get the locknut off before using the tie rod tool.

my alinment is bad, it pulls hard right, i believe its my passenger tie rod, it also makes a squeeling noise when i get the car up to 50 mph and take a curve, its so bad the inside of 2 new tires are showing thread, i gotta make sure i replace the right part before i spend money on new tires

It's called a circlip in most cases for the boot fixing, plus you should have measured the distance on the tie rod end, it's more accurate than a thread count.
But still a great educational video for the DIYers, keep up the good work young man.

men i purchase brand new ones and one of the tie rod has a fallen out boot you know where goes the grease. this can be put back again in place? its difficult with hands because its like that boot goes there with much press i dont know

2 questions:
1. When your car gets aligned do they loosen the outer and inner tie rods to adjust it to spec?
2. What do you do if the head of the pin breaks off but the pin it still holding the inner tie rod on?

reply

Hey Chris, Pete here. by the way, did that pin on the inside tie rod end happen to line up with a corresponding hole, or did it act more like a set screw (pressure against an edge. Thanks man.

Hello new here. I have a 2004 350z and I am thinking about changing the stuff myself. Would it be similar to this video? Or would it be any different?
reply

I tried to replace the boot because its damage. I can't loosen the alignment nut, I use wd40 but still doesn't work. Penetrate oil doesn't work either

Not one video showing tie rods explains which way to turn the nut, not one. What side of the car are you on? Do I turn toward the front or the back?
