I think things must go better when we're all rootin for ya ta get things done. Duddin it Rust belt brakes are almost the worst. Well. they may be the worst. Can't wait for the springs. We used to have a spring maker in town that if you were going to have to replace the hole spring packs you could call them and they'd have them assembled with the center pins and everything and they were not expensive (Zenith Spring. I think the owner retired and the shop closed down but they were really good. They could make the individual springs too. Just give them the make and model. Thanks for showing us how it's done! P. S. The packaging of the disc must add 20 bucks to the bottom line. What happened to the cardboard box Fourteen hours, good god man!

When you post real mechanical work you make it easier for us old farts to enjoy. Wiring and sensors I've known since the '80s but the amount of sensors and CPU & ECUs make my eyes glaze over. Just want to thank you for sharing with us that don't have a life anymore. Would love to be a member but no money and lots of time on my hands makes it not happen. Thought about scrappin to help my money but then my Medicaid would go away and I have 2 surgeries coming up. Woohoo. Love doctors cutting on me. LOL.

I do I do, know somebody who uses the parking brake, he has an 2016 passat with an automatic transmission but he usually drove a manual so now everytime he parks he pulls up the handbrake, I think he's pretending he still drives a stick. I purchased a 2003 town car from a friend, when I removed the rear wheels to inspect the brakes I was horrified at what I found, the shoes had practically disintegrated very similar to these.

Off topic, but I thought everyone would get a kick out of what I saw on the street in Kearney Nebraska the other day. It appears that Wilberts is branching out. A truck with a small crane on the back of it was in front of us at a stop light. On the back panel above the bumper was a sign for the company Wilberts Burial Vaults. Looks like Wilberts is tapping into the after life parts market.

You're very generous with your sil-glide, I'm much stingier. Guess I gotta step up my lube game. As far as work goes, I just had a fellow finance manager save over the updates I made to a file that I spent 3 hours working on. We all have our issues, but I get it, while I envy a lot of what you do, when I seriously think about it, I definitely see how the grind may not be worth the squeeze.

Did this exact job last month.
Had an 83 Buick Skylark with a four banger that had an oil filter that needed a contortionist to access.
I remember making a similar comment of if the friggen engineer had thought about it for another 5 minutes he could have made it
totally impossible to access the oil filter.

we used to call the part on the parking brake that always freezes up the Finger. ever since they used that designed, I never saw one that didn't freeze up in NY winters from salt and snow. horrible design. we used to do what you did, clean them up and lube the crap out of them. some engineer must have had a bad day when he designed that. This will show them, he said. jerk

Saw the coolest little old auto shop other day out in the middle of nowhere town in ky. Had a full manifold piped in for their oxy fuel torches. they just connected the lines to the two pipes on the walls. Said they filled the tanks outside up every few years. They do a lot of junking and metal work. hold a welding class in the shop also. perty neat n handy

This brought me back to my battles with replacing brake pads and frozen caliper pins on my old 1980 Tercel. In a sort of twisted way it felt good to watch a pro suffer just like I did with those accursed clips and springs and (in my case Minnesota) rust. I wish I had a torch and a power whacking tool like you, though. All I had was a sledgehammer. Uugh.

Most of the time when I do a brake job those caliper brackets get replaced. I've restored crusty ones like that before and found out it's rarely worth the time. For less than 200$ I stick new ones on. I work on my own vehicles and don't own a shop though. Different story when working on customer vehicles. Keep up the vids though, we all enjoy em!

Always enjoy your videos viewing from Maryland. I have a question. I know I’ve asked this before but on these parking brake shoes how come they are worn out I don’t get it. The brake on that wheel is a disc brake and the parking brake is just pulled on when you park so why do the shoes wear out I don’t understand that please explain thank you.

You said that they never have those rubbers in stock. Are they a one size fits all If so how many of those do you do in a week, month or year Ask your parts guys to let you know when they come in and buy all he has or will let you buy. .Alter I wrote this I realize you don't want to tie up your money in parts.

Yep those park brakes are a pain, a couple years ago I did my son's 09 and it was worse, even the backing plates were totally gone. Replaced backing plates, park cables and about everything in there and I remind him every month to use the park brake to keep them working. Good job.

Maybe I’m just a sucker for pain but the way I do these shoes is by putting both the heavy springs on and then using a small pry bar, leverage them over the actuator by prying on the axle hub. If you’re always applying constant pressure they seem to stay on the shoes.

I just had performance racing brakes (drilled, slotted rotors, larger calipers, carbon-infused ceramic pads) put on my vehicle. Installer did a great job. $1, 000 for both front and rear. (Obviously had to take the OEM off, bleed the system) Tuffy Auto shout-out.

I hear what you’re saying. I’m 79 in October, my days are always full booked in the HVAC service business. I keep telling my wife it’s time to quit. But I get up every morning, Monday thru Friday and do it all over again. WHO’S THE FOOL!
