Acura's Integra Type S Is Simply The Better Civic Type R 2024 Integra Type S Review

Acura's legendary Integra nameplate has returned and for 2024 we have a high performance option in the Type S. Why no Integra Type R? Because: reasons. Honestly, Acura didn't have a good one in my opinion. Anyway, the Integra Type S is the slightly softer, more luxurious, more practical, more comfortable alternative to the Civic with a longer warranty. What's not to love? Leau_thegold: So like did Acura just delete P-AWS?
Sure SH-AWD is great for neutral handling but only in on power situations, the old tlx 2. 4l with P-AWS was perfect is generally all normal driving + parking maneuvers

I like the Integra a lot, but I feel like Acura missed out on not including a sunroof on the Type R version. Sports variants back in the 80s and 90s always included a sunroof because they were meant to be driven on the road and not track (see original M3, Civic Si, etc. Even the most recent Focus RS and Golf R offer/ed sunroofs because they understand that these are meant for people who want to drive back roads with their windows open listening to the engine and enjoying the wind. Honda has lost the message on the Civic Type R and I believe it is lost even more on their luxury version of the car when it is the only Acura without a sunroof.

Seems like you are a reading my mine and saying all the things I wonder about.
I had 1995 Integra Type S and 2003 RSX Type S and as much as loved those cars, I missed having a rear wheel drive vehicles especially on turns.
When you said purity I wouldn t agreed on two aforementioned vehicles but somehow I feel what you are saying about purity!
I really miss driving stick shift cars and I am looking for some fun car to throw around. Your review answered all the wonders and now time for the test drive. Thank you!

This is a great car but the pricing. As others have said you can get the reliability and NA feel of an IS350, or even a Supra/ M3 Performance that has been out for a bit and has proven itself to be quite reliable and great tuning platform, whereas the TypeR, while great, has had issues with cooling and their transmission.
Either way, this is on the list, but hope dealers don't kill sales with markups and deposit avoidance shenanigans.

As someone who has tracked his 2. 4l TLX w/ the 8spd DCT, I don't know if it could stand up to the torque of the K20C1 or meet the fun mission w/ its reliance on a torque converter (like a true auto) for 1st & 2nd gears. The TLX has thrown trans oil cooling warnings after a handful of laps and would be an Achilles heel during a track day or Time Trials with their Integra Type S.

It'll be nice to have some direct competition on the streets with my EN. I suspect I'll shame it, since I have decades of street driving with a 6MT. Thankfully, the Koreans have taken over the underdog position leftover by the Japanese. If not for the price advantage, I would have had to keep my 2017 Civic forever since everything else is too expensive.

At 50+k I think I'd rather spend an extra 5k to get a base TLX Type-S that comes with AWD and a twin turbo v6. Sure you get better fuel mileage but if you are looking for performance than the TLX Type-S is the way to go when its only 5k more.

The value is horrible. They really should have thrown in sh-awd, cooled seats, rear vents, moon roof to command that price. TLX type s which has all of that and a more powerful V6 turbo is less than 5k away.

Engine bay looks great! Seems like you can get to a lot of things without a lot of drama. Good for long term ownership and keeping costs lower for labor on repair work when needed.

Pain points: lack of sound insulation, not-so-efficient mpg figures, crazy thin tire walls
How on earth can dealer mark up this thing? Sell it more than TLX Type S lol?

reply

just one more model that won't really be available and will sell with huge mark-ups, OTD prices will be on the same level as 380hp 6-cylinder competitors
reply

If you think this is disappointing you can do so much worse
The integra looks very promising and Acura is really stepping up their game

reply

all of the competitors you list were either RWD or AWD. None of them were fwd for 60k.
You are right it does look good. Just not 60k fwd good

reply

That German competition Alex mentioned - A3, 2 series gran coupe and Merc - are mostly hot garbage. The cheapness abounds even in the A3.
reply

I guess they wasn't planning on selling too many of these because there's no automatic transmission option or dual-clutch automatic.
reply

I'd never pay that kind of money on an Integra, not to mention the ridiculous dealer markup already on the existing regular Integra.
reply

wish it has a doughnut spare tire at least. so this is riding on ran flat tires i presume. SHAWD would have been a nice option
reply

Still no 360 camera or power folding mirrors like they get in Europe, these Jap automakers just love screwing US consumers!
